KBRN, Jakarta: The Early Detection Program for the Knees of People with Thalassemia is said to be in order to help the government realize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 3 concerning good health and prosperity and Number 17 concerning partnerships to achieve common goals.<\/p>\n
PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) (INSIGHT) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Coordinator, Suluh Tripambudi Rahardjo, revealed that as the initiator, his party collaborated with the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM), the Indonesian Thalassemia Foundation (YTI), Indonesian Thalassemia Friends and the Indonesian Pediatric Radiology Subspecialist Association (PSRAI).<\/p>\n
“This early detection program for the knee bones of people with thalassemia is in line with our company’s commitment, namely transforming investments into social impact. While investing in our products, investors are also invited to make a social impact. Hopefully this program can inspire and have a real good impact,” he told journalists in Jakarta, as quoted by RRI.co.id, Tuesday (19\/10\/2021).<\/p>\n
Thalassemia itself is a blood disorder that is passed down from one or both parents to the child, which causes the sufferer to experience anemia or lack of blood.<\/p>\n
Complaints experienced by sufferers include getting tired quickly, feeling sleepy easily, and even shortness of breath.<\/p>\n
Apart from helping the government, Suluh explained, the aim of holding this event is also to prevent the risk of disability due to disease complications and prevent joint and bone disorders due to long-term deferiprone therapy in people with Thalassemia major.<\/p>\n
PSRAI member and examining doctor in the program, Tigor Yehezkiel, said that Thalassemia is the disease that occurs most often and spreads massively in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Currently, early detection of joint and bone damage due to complications of Thalassemia requires high costs.<\/p>\n
“This is my concern to prove that ultrasound equipment can be an alternative choice for early detection of this disorder with high sensitivity and specificity along with an affordable price so that economically disadvantaged people can be helped,” he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, YIIM Management Secretary Dewi Astari hopes that this program can help families and people with thalassemia who are economically disadvantaged, considering that the very expensive costs of medical examinations are borne by the families of people with thalassemia.<\/p>\n
For your information, this examination program activity was carried out for two consecutive days at the Mercure Gatot Soebroto Hotel, Jakarta, aimed at 50 children aged 2-17 years with thalassemia major.<\/p>\n
On the first day, Saturday (16\/10\/2021), doctors examined the knees of 24 pediatric patients from three hospitals, namely Harapan Bunda Hospital, Pasar Rebo, Hermina Jatinegara Hospital and Fatmawati Hospital.<\/p>\n
On the second day, Sunday (17\/10\/2021), 25 pediatric patients from Harapan Kita Slipi Hospital and Hermina Kemayoran Hospital were examined.<\/p>\n
During the examination process, the beneficiaries, namely children with thalassemia, are accompanied directly by the patient’s guardian or parent.<\/p>\n
After the examination, all beneficiaries received examination results in the form of ultrasound expertise as well as doctor’s advice, antigen swab results and healthy food. (Miechell Octovy Koagouw)<\/p>\n
Through this synergy and initiative, the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) hopes that the programs implemented can provide real benefits, open up wider opportunities for independence for participants, and actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
