Ibu Sainah (52), a former prison inmate who has completed her mandatory reporting period at the Jakarta Pusat Correctional Center (BAPAS), was initially confused when she had just finished her rehabilitation period. This situation compelled her to find new competencies and skills to sustain her life after serving her sentence and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, she received information about the entrepreneurship training program organized by the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM), which offered training in barista skills, culinary arts, and hydroponics, from one of the Community Guidance Officers (PK) she had met during her rehabilitation as a correctional client. Sainah decided to join the culinary program because she already had basic cooking knowledge. She was fortunate to be selected as one of the training participants and received business equipment assistance.<\/p>\n
The program, implemented by YIIM in collaboration with PT Pertamina Training and Consulting (PTC), has produced many new entrepreneurs in the culinary field. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 1: No Poverty, where YIIM and PTC are committed to continuously mentoring and encouraging program alumni to become self-reliant by starting and developing their own businesses.<\/p>\n
Sainah is no exception. With the assistance provided by YIIM and PTC in the form of a freezer machine and other cooking equipment, she was motivated to open her frozen food business, “Bengkel Perut Ibu Iin”. Her business, selling fried chicken and various rice and fried fish packages from her home, brings her a profit of between IDR 50,000 (fifty thousand rupiah) and IDR 100,000 (one hundred thousand rupiah) per day. In addition to selling directly from home, Sainah has also expanded her business reach by opening online stores through the GoFood and GrabFood applications. Her venture is clear evidence of the tangible benefits of the culinary training she participated in.<\/p>\n
When asked what keeps her moving forward, Sainah stated, “The existence of YIIM and this culinary program has been very meaningful for me, just coming out of prison, where I had to start everything from scratch. I had no skills or foothold; this training opened my mind to the possibility of trading.”<\/p>\n
