Jakarta \u2013 On Thursday, January 13, 2022, Collie F. Brown, UNODC Indonesia Country Manager and Liaison to ASEAN, visited the headquarters of Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) to engage in dialogue and observe firsthand the social entrepreneurship empowerment models for correctional clients operated by YIIM since 2018. Mr. Brown was accompanied by UNODC delegates, including Avezia Ariane and Kristian Patrasio.<\/p>\n
The delegation was welcomed by Chrisbiantoro, Chairman of the Board of YIIM, alongside foundation program staff including Achmad Fanani Rosyidi and Ratih Puspita. Also joining the welcoming assembly were successful alumni of YIIM’s social entrepreneurship programs\u2014former correctional clients mentored by the Central Jakarta Corrections Center (Bapas Kelas I Jakarta Pusat)\u2014who have achieved self-reliance in business and professional careers.<\/p>\n
The participating alumni included Alpijar Ramadhani (2020 barista trainee and owner of Depan Roemah Coffee), Bambang Purbowo (2020 barista trainee and founder of Kopi Bali Lore), Gusti Darmawan (barber trainee currently working as a barberman at Barbershop Inspirasi), and Humam Hasan (2018 barista trainee serving as Head Barista at Kedai Kopi Inspirasi).<\/p>\n
During the visit, Mr. Brown inspected the Barbershop Inspirasi salon on the second floor of YIIM’s building as well as Kedai Kopi Inspirasi on the ground floor, savoring specialty coffees prepared by the empowered barista alumni.<\/p>\n
In a cordial exchange, Mr. Brown stated: "I would like to thank Mr. Chrisbiantoro for the gracious hospitality and warm reception. Having toured Barbershop Inspirasi and Kedai Kopi Inspirasi, I recognize that YIIM holds immense potential and champions deeply inspiring social entrepreneurship programs. UNODC is currently mentoring former terrorism offenders in Malang through initiatives closely mirroring YIIM’s model. I hope this meeting will lead to fruitful, impactful collaborations."<\/p>\n
Expressing deep appreciation, Chrisbiantoro remarked: "We are deeply honored by the visit of Mr. Collie Brown and the UNODC leadership to our office. All programs we deliver are firmly grounded in the Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the United Nations. We look forward to translating this dialogue into strategic follow-up actions to advance socio-economic reintegration."<\/p>\n
From this consultation, YIIM and UNODC mapped out concrete joint plans to implement social entrepreneurship training programs covering both foundational soft skills and vocational hard skills for former terrorism offenders.<\/p>\n
Previously, YIIM had successfully partnered with UNODC and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (LPSK RI) to organize hybrid vocational training in Barista Coffee and Frozen Food culinary production for terrorism survivors on December 9\u201311 and December 15\u201317, 2021, empowering 42 participants from Bali, Poso, Palu, Surabaya, Malang, and Purwakarta.<\/p>\n
These social reintegration and empowerment initiatives harmonize with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 8, 10, 16, and 17, which have been incorporated into national policy under Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 on the Implementation and Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n
