Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), together with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), an investment manager concerned with social and humanitarian issues, has implemented a community empowerment program through its corporate social responsibility initiative that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 1 – No Poverty and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities.<\/p>\n
YIIM and INSIGHT are committed to improving the welfare of socially disadvantaged communities, including former clients of correctional institutions.<\/p>\n
Ponco Sunarto (33), commonly known as Ponco, is one of the alumni of the barista training program organized by YIIM and INSIGHT in 2020. Prior to participating in the barista training, Ponco was a rehabilitation client of the Class 1 Correctional Center (Bapas) Central Jakarta. From the beginning, he was highly interested in brewing various types of beverages. Upon learning about the barista training opportunity from the Central Jakarta Correctional Center, he did not let the opportunity pass.<\/p>\n
Due to his persistence and determination to change his future, Ponco participated in the tiered barista training, starting from the initial training period, to an internship, and continuous mentorship at Kopi Inspirasi. He was also entrusted to serve as the Assistant Head Barista at Kopi Inspirasi.<\/p>\n
After completing the entire training series, Ponco has also become an active member of the training team for the barista training program conducted by YIIM and its partners.<\/p>\n
Ponco is highly talented and demonstrates dedication and professionalism in sharing his knowledge and experience with barista training participants. With great enthusiasm, he also shares tips and business calculations to ensure that participants have a comprehensive understanding of the barista profession and the initial capital needed to open a coffee shop.<\/p>\n
He even had the opportunity to become a barista trainer for individuals with physical disabilities who wished to learn to become baristas and open their own coffee shops.<\/p>\n
After completing the training and internship at Kopi Inspirasi, he has now been recruited and trusted to become the Head Barista at the coffee shop “D’Agro Fine Coffee”, located on the Ground Floor of the Agro Plaza Building, Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Thanks to his skill in making and brewing coffee, he is currently able to earn an average income of approximately Rp. 4,000,000 (four million rupiah) per month. Today, Ponco is able to support his family’s livelihood, from previously being unemployed to now being able to contribute to his family’s economy.<\/p>\n
Ponco also has a strong sense of social responsibility, sharing the knowledge of coffee brewing he has acquired with others who wish to learn. This aligns with the principle of the social entrepreneurship training conducted by YIIM and INSIGHT, which is to create agents of change who spread knowledge and inspiration to others.<\/p>\n
Ponco stated, “Thank you to YIIM and INSIGHT for organizing the social entrepreneurship barista training. Thanks to this training, I have gained many benefits, not only the skill of making coffee but also the confidence to reintegrate into society. I hope my past can serve as a lesson, and at this moment, I only want to provide benefit and inspiration to many people. I hope YIIM and INSIGHT will continue to spread goodness to communities in need, just like me.”<\/p>\n
As a form of contribution to the wider community, especially vulnerable groups, YIIM and INSIGHT hope that similar initiatives will continue to be carried out by alumni of the entrepreneurship training program to create social impact and spread benefits. This is also intended to support government programs aimed at reducing poverty and accelerating the achievement of the SDGs.<\/p>\n
