Ramadan food distribution and free haircuts in Pondok Pinang

On Thursday, 28 March 2024, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management, held a GEMPITA Ramadan activity for residents of the waste-picker community in Pondok Pinang. The event took place in Gang Kenanga, Jalan Kenanga, RT 01/RW 08, Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.

The partners distributed 100 boxed meals for iftar, 100 takjil packages, and 100 cups of palm-sugar milk coffee donated by Emphatee Coffee. Twenty-five residents also received free haircuts.

The haircut service involved two alumni of barber training previously supported by YIIM and Insight. Ageng Patmoko, a 2018 alumnus and owner of Optima 73 Barbershop, worked alongside Anang Ardiansyah, a 2023 alumnus employed at Barbercut. Their participation showed how vocational-training graduates could use their skills to contribute directly to their community.

Chrisbiantoro, Chair of YIIM, said the meals, takjil, and free haircuts were intended to ease some of the community’s needs during Ramadan. He explained that the activity formed part of a routine Ramadan program and hoped it would bring benefit and blessings to people in the area.

A representative of the Pondok Pinang waste-picker community thanked YIIM and Insight for the iftar packages, takjil, and free haircut service.

The activity formed part of the wider GEMPITA Ramadan series delivered in Jakarta, Depok, Yogyakarta, and Madura. The series included meals and takjil, financial assistance, staple foods, worship equipment, free air-conditioning cleaning and service at mosques and orphanages, and free haircuts.

The initiative contributes to SDG 2: Zero Hunger and reflects YIIM and Insight’s continuing collaboration in humanitarian support during Ramadan.

Salam Inspirasi!
