The Indonesia Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Pertamina Training and Consulting are always committed to supporting strengthening community independence through a series of inclusive and sustainable empowerment initiatives.
PT Pertamina Training and Consulting (PTC) and the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) held barista training for friends with disabilities for the sake of equality and independence through
“Through the TJSL program, we embrace inclusion to foster the spirit of friends with disabilities to become stronger and more competitive,” he said
Mirasfi said that skills training for people with disabilities was a starting point to become empowered independently and develop capacity.
Mirasfi gave the example of a disabled person, Aries Adryanto, who is an alumni of the 2021 batch of PTC disabled friends’ barista training and started the Warkop Uhuyy business.
“We will monitor and help so that the participants can be independent through coffee entrepreneurship,” said Mirasfi.
Since 2017, PTC through the TJSL program has provided attention to inclusive people with disabilities with various category backgrounds such as autistic, deaf and quadriplegic.
The 2022 coffee barista training for the disabled is the second year for PTC to continue the spirit of empowerment which was held offline and online on 19-21 September 2022.
It was recorded that 38 friends with disabilities from the blind, low vision, deaf and quadriplegic categories were selected to take part in online training and 20 people were selected through a written selection and interview system to take part in direct training at Ko+labora Flexispace, Taman Sari, West Jakarta.
Of the total participants, 10 participants were deaf, nine participants were quadriplegic and one participant was blind with low vision.
The blind friends were assisted by two translators from Sign Language Interpretation (JBI) when listening to the material.
The training was guided by trainer and coffee practitioner Humam Hasan as Head Barista of Kopi Inspirasi, Fransisca Nathalia as barista and business owner of Kedai Kopi Sasca and assistant trainer Aries Adryanto.
The participants received material including introduction to barista equipment, making espresso menus, practice using manual coffee equipment and making manual brew menus such as V60, Vietnamese drip, aero press and French press as well as basic menus such as americano, long black, coffee latte and contemporary milk coffee.
Apart from that, there is applicable training, participants are also taught how to calculate coffee business capital.
Aries said that the coffee barista training opened up opportunities for people with disabilities to become micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
This is based on the progress graph of previous year’s alumni who had quite a lot of opportunities to share knowledge at various regional and international scale events.
A total of 19 “Training of Trainer” (ToT) participants are alumni who have started coffee shop businesses, frozen food culinary and hydroponic vegetables spread across the Jabodetabek area.
Participants are specifically provided with material on techniques for preparing materials and presentations, techniques for being a facilitator, business innovation and digital marketing, socialization of the Jakpreneur Program from the Child Protection and Population Empowerment Service (PPAPP) of the South Jakarta City Government, bookkeeping for MSME entrepreneurship, managing the legality of MSMEs and legal protection for MSME activists.
Through this synergy and initiative, the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) hopes that the programs implemented can provide real benefits, open up wider opportunities for independence for participants, and actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
*Inspiration Greetings!*
