Inclusive Makeup Training Builds Skills and Business Confidence
Fourteen women, including a participant with low vision, received practical makeup instruction, learning materials, equipment, and guidance on starting a professional service business.
On Thursday, 7 March 2024, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management held a makeup-skills training course at the YIIM office. The activity ran from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and was designed to help participants develop practical skills for micro and small enterprises.
Fourteen women aged 20 to 55 attended, including one participant with low vision. Chrisbiantoro, Chair of YIIM, opened the program and encouraged everyone to maintain their enthusiasm and participate actively throughout the day.
The trainer was Regita Cahyani, an alumna of a previous YIIM makeup course who now operates Gitaacms Wedding and holds certification from Indonesia’s National Professional Certification Agency. Her journey from trainee to certified entrepreneur gave participants a relevant example of how the skills could become a livelihood.
Participants received a makeup training module prepared by YIIM and the training team, along with individual makeup equipment packages. The theory sessions explained facial skin types and their characteristics, how skin condition affects product selection, and the purpose and correct use of different makeup tools.
During direct practice, participants learned how to clean and prepare the face and apply makeup under the guidance of the trainer and assistant trainer. A model was provided so techniques could be demonstrated before participants applied them themselves. The trainers offered individual guidance to ensure that each participant understood the process and used the tools correctly.
A question-and-answer session covered more advanced techniques, choosing and applying foundation for different skin types, becoming a professional makeup artist, and starting a makeup-services business. Participants showed strong enthusiasm and used the session to explore both technical and commercial challenges.
The program supported government efforts to foster entrepreneurship and develop local economic potential. Through inclusive skills training and access to equipment, YIIM and Insight sought to help participants build confidence, improve employability, and create sustainable microenterprise opportunities.
