On Wednesday, 28 February 2024, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management, held the first of three planned baking-training batches for people from low-income backgrounds and persons with disabilities.

Twelve participants joined the course: six people from low-income communities, four former correctional clients supported by Central Jakarta BAPAS, and two participants with hearing disabilities.

The course taught participants to make Florentine cookies and peanut balls. Supporting lessons covered entrepreneurship, licensing for micro and small enterprises, equipment and ingredient identification, direct baking practice, calculation of cost of goods sold, and discussion.

Training was held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at YIIM’s office in Grand Wijaya Centre Block F/62B, Pulo, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. Ambar Yuliasiwi served as lead trainer and Umaroch as assistant trainer.

The opening was attended by Chrisbiantoro, Chair of YIIM; Isnaeni Setiawan, CSR Coordinator at Insight; and Riccana Rosita, Treasurer of YIIM.

Chrisbiantoro explained that YIIM had been operating for ten years and that social-enterprise skills training, including baking, was one of its flagship programs. He encouraged participants to gain knowledge and experience and later apply it through independent businesses.

Isnaeni described Insight as an investment and mutual-fund company that gives investors opportunities to contribute to social programs. Through its Investments to Social Impact approach, Insight worked with YIIM to create practical benefits for community independence.

Participant Elly Widiyawati thanked YIIM and Insight and expressed hope that the training would provide knowledge and inspiration for greater independence.

The initiative contributes to SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
