Baking Demonstration Strengthens Eight Inclusive Food Entrepreneurs
Eight YIIM alumni from low-income and disability backgrounds learned to make cheese bakpia and klepon cheesecake while strengthening their existing food businesses.

On 6 February 2024, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) again collaborated with Titan Baking to hold a culinary demonstration class featuring cheese bakpia and klepon cheesecake. The program strengthened the cooking skills of microenterprise alumni previously supported by YIIM while opening opportunities for new food entrepreneurs.
The class took place in the Titan Baking kitchen on Jalan RS Fatmawati Raya No. 51B, Cilandak Barat, South Jakarta. YIIM had previously partnered with Titan Baking in 2019 and 2020, reaching approximately 39 participants. Many alumni went on to operate businesses producing dry and wet cakes and snacks in Jakarta and surrounding areas. One alumna, Wanmayetty, later became a culinary trainer and mentor.
Eight YIIM alumni attended the 2024 class. They came from low-income communities and included participants with hearing and physical disabilities.
The training began at 10:00 a.m. and was led by Chef Iman and Chef Rega. In the first session, participants learned to make klepon cheesecake, beginning with ingredients and continuing through each preparation technique. The second recipe was cheese bakpia, including direct practice in making its pastry skin.
Participants asked many questions throughout the demonstration. Siti Hodijah, a participant with a hearing disability, asked how to make bakpia skin without specialized equipment. Her active participation showed that disability did not limit her determination to learn and improve her culinary skills.
Active participants received goodie bags and shopping vouchers that could be used to purchase ingredients and repeat the recipes at home. Through accessible instruction, direct practice, and links to an established baking business, YIIM sought to help disadvantaged participants and people with disabilities become more competitive through locally based enterprise.
Salam Inspirasi!
