Coffee Equipment Support Helps Training Alumnus Launch Pila Pili Kopi
A former correctional client and YIIM barista-training alumnus received a complete equipment package to launch an independent coffee business in Central Jakarta.
On 15 September 2023, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management provided a complete coffee-business equipment package to Humam Hasan, a 43-year-old graduate of YIIM’s social-enterprise barista training.
Before joining the program, Humam had been a correctional client of Central Jakarta Class I Correctional Centre. In 2018, he completed staged barista entrepreneurship training and an internship organized by YIIM from March to June.
After training, Humam continued receiving guidance and became head barista at Kopi Inspirasi until June 2023. He was also trusted to serve as a trainer in Insight’s corporate social and environmental responsibility programs for low-income participants and persons with disabilities.
The business package included a bar counter, coffee machine, espresso machine, naked portafilter, thermometer, electric milk frother, electric grinder, digital scale, cooler box, cup sealer, espresso glasses, gas stove, display case, hand grinder, tamping mat, knock box, electric kettle, paper-cup rack, 58-mm tamper, cafe-light fittings, measuring glasses, multipurpose bottles, stove regulator, plastic bags, cafe bulbs, and paper cups.
Romadhona, representing YIIM, formally handed over the equipment at Humam’s new business, Pila Pili Kopi, on Jalan Kotabumi Ujung No. 16, Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, opposite Masjid Jami Darussalam.
Humam planned to operate through a mobile-stall concept. His menu included milk coffee, hazelnut milk coffee, Americano, creamy latte, butterscotch milk coffee, caramel chocolate cheese, signature chocolate, matcha latte, mochaccino, and lychee with basil seeds. Prices were planned between Rp10,000 and Rp17,000, with both offline and online sales.
Humam thanked YIIM and Insight for the assistance, describing it as a new beginning that would allow him to build an independent enterprise and increase income for his family.
The support continued YIIM’s social-entrepreneurship approach, which had been operating since 2018 with partners and donors. The program contributes to SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, aligned with Presidential Regulation No. 59 of 2017.
