Financial Literacy Training Strengthens Productive Empowerment at Pondok Bambu
Financial-literacy training equipped 25 residents and 13 detention-centre staff with practical knowledge about budgeting, saving, investing, and business financial planning.
On Friday, 21 July 2023, YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management held financial-literacy training from 9:40 a.m. to noon at Pondok Bambu Class I State Detention Centre.
Noor Farikhah, Head of Detainee Services at Pondok Bambu, opened the event. She thanked YIIM and Insight for their patient and consistent support through social-enterprise training. She emphasized that financial literacy was useful not only for residents but also for detention-centre staff, particularly women responsible for household finances and graduates who hoped to establish businesses.
Chrisbiantoro, Chair of the YIIM Executive Board, explained that practical courses in frozen-food production, sewing, and hairstyling were not sufficient on their own. Participants also needed financial planning, entrepreneurship management, innovation, and sound bookkeeping standards to build resilient micro and small enterprises.
The training was attended by 38 people, comprising 25 women who had completed the earlier skills courses and 13 detention-centre staff members. YIIM staff member Ega Melindo moderated the session.
The speaker was Reyhan Adinugraha, Retail Sales, Distribution and Business Alliances Associate at Insight. Printed presentation modules were distributed to all participants. His saving and investment series covered the importance and benefits of financial literacy, basic financial-planning concepts, saving and ideal budget allocation, investment planning, and different types of investment.
A discussion and question-and-answer session followed the presentation. Participants were encouraged to examine information carefully, continue learning, and seek reliable references when considering business and investment opportunities.
In his closing message, Reyhan thanked participants for their active involvement and encouraged them to explore opportunities to become social entrepreneurs supported by durable financial plans.
The program forms part of YIIM and Insight’s commitment to supporting productive detention centres where residents can gain practical skills. It aims to encourage wider concern for social and economic empowerment and contribute to stronger reintegration outcomes.
