YIIM Organizes Barbershop Training Batch 2 to Open Self-Reliant Business Opportunities
The Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (YIIM) partnered with D'friends Barbershop School to organize Barbershop Training Batch 2 in Rawa Belong, fostering job-ready haircutting skills and self-reliance.

Vocational skills in personal grooming services, particularly men’s haircutting and barbershop grooming, offer remarkably stable livelihood prospects across Indonesia. By mastering precision cutting techniques and exceptional customer care, the barber profession serves as an effective pathway for young people and vulnerable communities to achieve lasting economic independence.
Demonstrating proactive commitment to grassroots economic empowerment, the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun / YIIM) partnered with D’friends Pangkas Rambut School and Training to organize the Barbershop Training Program Batch 2 from 24 to 28 June 2019. The comprehensive five-day workshop was conducted in the Rawa Belong area, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.
The training brought together 14 participants from varied community backgrounds, including youths from the Tasawuf Underground Community, Mualaf Center Community, and local jobseekers aspiring to build independent barber careers.
Throughout the week, participants underwent rigorous hands-on instruction led by master trainers, covering:
- Head anatomy, hair texture identification, and the operation of professional shears, thinning scissors, and electric clippers.
- Classic men’s haircutting techniques and contemporary trending styles (undercut, fade, pompadour).
- Precision neckline edging, hairline styling, and beard/mustache grooming.
- Direct haircutting practice on live volunteer models under attentive supervisor guidance.
- Workplace hygiene, instrument sterilization, client hospitality standards, and practical tips for launching independent barbershop businesses.
Through this vocational program, YIIM aims to provide an inclusive platform empowering participants with tangible competencies to gain employment at leading barbershops or establish their own grooming enterprises, thereby boosting household self-sufficiency.
This initiative directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Inspiration Greetings!
