Jakarta, 23 August 2024 – The Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) together with Insight Investments Management carried out an empowerment program for economically and socially vulnerable groups through the Perfume Entrepreneurship Training Program which was held on 20 – 21 August 2024, which was attended by 17 participants from different backgrounds including: correctional clients, workers who had been laid off, housewives and the unemployed and casual workers.

The training activity was accompanied by a trainer, namely Susgiharti, who has been an entrepreneur in the perfume industry since 2000. The trainer owns a perfume shop called Aneka Parfum which currently has 7 branch stores in the Jakarta, Bekasi and Tangerang areas.

The event was opened by representatives of the management of the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM), in this case represented by Riccana Rosita as Treasurer of the Management. In his speech he said that, “This training activity is a form of YIIM and INSIGHT’s concern to improve the participants’ skills in perfume entrepreneurship. He also said that today’s participants are selected people who have gone through a strict selection. He hopes that the participants will be serious in this training, so that after the training they can be self-sufficient,”.

On the first day of activities, participants began by completing a pre-test to determine participants’ knowledge about perfume. After that, participants were given a basic introduction to perfume, such as types of perfume, types of aroma, etc.

The aim of delivering this material is to increase participants’ understanding of the basics related to perfume. After an introduction to the basics of perfume, participants were invited to identify the aromas in several perfume seeds to increase their olfactory sensitivity to perfume, this is the basis when participants want to run a perfume business. Next, the participants mixed perfume with various perfume aroma seeds. Participants seemed to be starting to become enthusiastic about participating in the practice of perfume compounding.

On thesecond day, participants practiced mixing perfume by mixing several aroma seeds to get a unique and new aroma. Apart from that, there was a discussion session between the trainer and the participants regarding running a perfume business based on the trainer’s experience while running a perfume business.

The event closed with the distribution of certificates to participants, as well as a speech from the chairman of the YIIM Management, Chrisbiantoro, in his speech emphasizing the importance of participants having the courage to start a perfume business, whether they mix themselves or are re-sellers as well as interning at a trainer’s place to receive further guidance.

This event is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 1 on fighting poverty and SDGs 8 on decent work and economic growth.

By holding this Perfume Entrepreneurship Training, YIIM hopes to help the community, especially those belonging to vulnerable groups, to be empowered so they can participate actively in the economic sector. Apart from that, it helps participants to develop knowledge and skills to start their business.
