Erico Anugrah Tri Putra (20 years old) or usually called Rico is one of the recipients of the inspirational scholarship that has been given by the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) (INSIGHT) and the Plantation Pension Fund (DAPENBUN) in 2020. Erico is a student at the Yogyakarta Plantation Education Institute (LPP) Polytechnic majoring in Diploma 3 in Chemical Technology. In his last semester, Erico got a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.52.

This young man who was born in Banyuwangi is the third of four children. Currently he lives with his parents and younger sister in an official residence in Yogyakarta Province. The father currently works looking after a sugar cane plantation on the land of the Yogyakarta LPP Polytechnic and the mother is currently an entrepreneur selling clothes around the village and selling heavy food.

Erico’s Determination to Continue College Education

Before continuing his college education, Erico felt uncertain. At first Erico was interested in studying at an Islamic boarding school. However, as a result of discussions with his family, Erico ultimately decided to go to college. Due to family financial limitations, Erico started looking for scholarship information at the Yogyakarta LPP Polytechnic.

“I’m trying to find information on scholarships for studying at the Yogyakarta LPP Polytechnic because I have acquaintances who graduated there. My family has financial limitations and at the same time my younger brother is entering high school. Having a scholarship can help ease that.” Said Erico.

Erico is very grateful, from the test to taking part in the Forum Group Discussion (FGD), Erico finally had the opportunity to get an inspirational scholarship from YIIM, INSIGHT, and DAPENBUN. He took part in a whole series of lecture activities to gain experience in various places.

“I used to feel unsure because at school the major was different from college. But in the end I went with the flow and as long as I had my parents’ approval, everything would be fine. I am very grateful that while I was studying, I took part in an extraordinary program and had the opportunity to take part in an internship program at Wilmar which had many applicants and this was an extraordinary achievement.” Said Erico.

Actively participates in organizations and competitions

While studying, Erico has been active in various organizations since semester 2. Rico first joined the HMPS D3 Chemical Engineering organization and served as Deputy Chair in 2020-2021. Then in the second period Erico returned to his position as supervisor. In 2021 Erico will also take part in UKM Futsal and Islamic Spiritual Affairs as an administrator. Not only campus organizations, Erico is also reviving the Banyuwangi LPP Yogyakarta Student Association organization.

Apart from organizations, Erico has also carried out an internship program for 16 weeks at PG Asembagus Situbondo, East Java. And currently Erico is also carrying out a 6 month recruitment internship program at PT jawamanis Rafinasi Cilegon, Banten.

Apart from being active in organizations, Erico is also active in participating in various competitions. Erico and his team won several competitions, namely 3rd place in the 2022 National FKMPI (Indonesian Polytechnic Student Communication Forum) Debate Competition, and 1st Place in the 2022 National Accounting Student Association Accounting Debate Festival.

Erico and his study program organization friends also hold social activities every year. Starting from holding activities at the Love Orphanage to holding rice sharing activities on campus.

Aspirations and Hope

Erico is very grateful because he has studied for three years with various experiences from internships to competitions. The hope is that when he graduates, Erico will want to open a business and if there is an opportunity to work, Erico is very enthusiastic and this job can add to his experience in his career.

“I have always dreamed of having my own business and enterprise which I will develop from the potential I have. In the short term, if I get a job, the job could be a stepping stone in my career. Apart from that, my future plans are to help my brother’s business in the livestock sector.” Said Erico

Erico also gave his hopes for YIIM and INSIGHT

“Hopefully in the future YIIM and INSIGHT will be smooth and successful. If possible, the quota for scholarship recipients can be increased further. Because this is something that is useful for friends who were pessimistic in terms of costs and expectations, also because there are several things that need to be considered. Thanks to this scholarship, it can be an extraordinary support for scholarship recipients.”
