Ageng Patmoko (50 years old) or usually called Mr. Ageng is one of the alumni of the barber training held by the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) (PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT)) in 2018. This program is one of the community economic empowerment programs which aims to improve the economy of underprivileged communities. This program is in line with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs number 1 concerning ending poverty and number 2 concerning ending hunger.

Pak Ageng currently lives with his wife and three daughters in the North Petukangan area, South Jakarta. Currently, with his barber business, Mr Ageng is the sole backbone of the family, because his wife focuses on taking care of the household. Opening New Opportunities by Participating in Training Since 2016, Mr Ageng has been “homebound” from his former office, at a well-known taxi company in Jakarta. After being unemployed, he had to rack his brains to find a fortune. He has experienced all kinds of businesses with ups and downs, from selling around to opening an ice cream shop in the Ciledug CBD.

The wife also helped by trading drugs in collaboration with her brother. Until finally in 2018 he took part in barbershop entrepreneurship training and coaching held by YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT). By taking part in this training, Mr Ageng hopes to gain new skills and open a business to support his family. “Initially I got the news from an office friend at work. When he gave me information about shaving training, I finally tried to join in.” Said Mr Ageng.

From Apprenticeship to Dare to Open a Business After participating in the training, Mr Ageng took part in an apprenticeship program held by YIIM at a barbershop provided by YIIM for trained barbers to undergo an apprenticeship program. In this place, Mr. Ageng honed his shaving skills to get better shaving results. After Mr. Ageng participated in the internship program for 2 years, Mr. Ageng had the opportunity to receive capital assistance in the form of a set of shaving tools that the target participants could use to open their own businesses. After receiving this assistance, Mr. Ageng opened a business with the name “Optima 73 Barber Shop” in Larangan District, Tangerang City.

In his business, Mr Ageng offers various services, from mustache shaving, hair shaving to hair coloring at a price of IDR 5,000 to IDR 50,000. Mr Ageng in running his business now gets an average of 7-8 customers every day. And now Mr Ageng’s net income in a month averages IDR 2,000,000. “Thank God, after almost 3 years of opening my own business, the results I get per day are enough to meet my family’s daily needs.” Said Mr Ageng.

Mr. Ageng feels very grateful that the knowledge and capital assistance provided to YIIM and INSIGHT can improve his family’s economy. He hopes that the business he runs will continue to run so that he can meet his family’s living needs. And Mr. Ageng also felt very helped by the YIIM and INSIGHT inspiration scholarship program, his eldest son was able to study at the Jakarta Veterans National Development University.
