Panut Panuju (50 years old) or usually called Mr. Panut is one of the alumni of the vehicle steam washing training held by the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) (INSIGHT) in 2023. This training is one of the community economic empowerment programs which aims to make the community improve the economy individually and in groups.

This program is also in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) Number 1 concerning eliminating poverty and number 10 ending inequality. Mr Panut is a client of the Malang I Correctional Center (BAPAS). He has two children who are now married and living independently. Currently, Mr. Panut lives alone with his wife at Griya Abhiparaya BAPAS Malang.

Before serving his prison term, Mr. Panut worked as a farmer and casual worker. He does whatever work he does to support his wife and children even though his income is not fixed every day. Looking for work after being released from detention. After Mr. Panut served 10 months in prison and was released from prison in 2021, Mr. Panut was on parole for 5 months. When Mr. Panut was free, he didn’t have a job. To empower clients, Mr. Panut was offered a job by BAPAS Malang as a guard at Griya Abhiparaya. Currently it has been maintained for 1 year. Pak Panut immediately accepted the offer and he lived alone with his wife at the Abhiparaya home.

Mr. Panut’s income while he was a guard there was IDR 1,000,000. Mr. Panut is always grateful, whatever income he receives can support Mr. Panut and his wife. “Thank God, the most important thing is that I am grateful for my own income. Hopefully in the future there will be a more decent income.” Said Mr Panut. The Beginning of Opening a Vehicle Steam Washing Business When YIIM and INSIGHT held vehicle steam washing training at BAPAS Malang, Mr. Panut was invited to take part in the training. He was very enthusiastic about participating in the training.

By taking part in vehicle steam washing training, he hopes to improve his abilities and increase his income from these abilities. “By taking part in this training I can increase my experience and knowledge. I feel that steam washing vehicles can be a job and support my daily needs.” Said Mr Panut. After the training was completed, BAPAS Malang received business assistance tools in the form of vehicle steam washing equipment from YIIM and INSIGHT. Thanks to this assistance, Mr. Panut was given the opportunity by BAPAS Malang to open a vehicle steam washing business located in front of Griya Abhiparaya.

Mr. Panut is very enthusiastic about running this business. Currently the business has been running for two months. The price for vehicle steam washing services is IDR 10,000 for motorbikes and IDR 25,000 for cars. In a day he washes 1-2 vehicles. Mr. Panut also put up a promotion for his business, for 10 vehicle washes you will get 1 free wash.

The business opening hours are open from morning to evening. When Pak Panut started this business, there were several obstacles faced by Mr. Panut. However, as time went by, Mr. Panut was finally able to overcome these obstacles. “At first there were a few shortcomings, such as how to wash, how to use water, etc. However, as the days went by, I kept practicing so that my abilities would improve. The important thing is that I continued to persevere because looking for customer satisfaction was a priority first.” Said Mr Panut.

In the first month, Mr. Panut earned a gross income of IDR 600,000. Of each income, 50% goes to Mr. Panut and 50% percent goes to business needs. He was very happy because the results of his business could be used for his and his wife’s daily needs. By running this vehicle steam washing business, Mr. Panut hopes that this business will continue to run and one day he wants to add branches to this vehicle steam washing business. “Here, in my opinion, steam washing is done for snow steam washing and tire repair. There is a big opportunity here because of the strategic position.
