Young Riau barista competing at the Indonesian Barista Championship

On Saturday, 6 May 2023, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management, helped 24-year-old barista Nur Rohim Laras Setia represent Riau at the 2023 Indonesian Barista Championship at Hall D1, JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Nur Rohim was an accomplished young woman from Pekanbaru who participated in social, arts, and creative advocacy activities. She studied communication at UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau while also working professionally as a barista at a coffee shop in Pekanbaru.

After competing at the regional level, she qualified as one of 12 national participants. The three-day championship assessed speciality-coffee presentation, beverage preparation, and communication during service.

YIIM and Insight provided Rp10 million in operational support for her participation. Nur Rohim reached the national top 12 but did not advance to the six-person final. Competing against senior baristas with extensive championship experience nevertheless represented a significant achievement for her and for Riau.

Nur Rohim said she was proud to represent Riau at national level even though she did not win. She thanked YIIM and Insight for enabling her to reach the competition and viewed the experience as an important step in her professional development.

Chrisbiantoro, Chair of YIIM, congratulated Nur Rohim and reaffirmed YIIM and Insight’s commitment to supporting talented young people as they pursue their ambitions.

Isnaeni Setiawan, CSR Coordinator at Insight, said Nur Rohim’s achievement could inspire other young people. He linked the support to Insight’s commitment to dedicate part of its investment income to social initiatives with wider community benefits.

The initiative contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Salam Inspirasi!
