YIIM Webinar Series 2 Helps Students and Graduates Understand Workplace Rights and Risks
YIIM and Insight Investments Management equipped 34 students and recent graduates with practical knowledge about employment rights, contracts, and legal risks in professional and digital work.
Supported by PT Insight Investments Management, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) held YIIM Webinar Series 2 on 10 March 2026. The session, titled “Safe and Professional Careers: Understanding Rights and Risks,” was designed for students and recent graduates preparing to enter the workforce.
The webinar brought together 34 participants and featured YIIM Board of Trustees Chair Irfan Melayu as the speaker. He introduced workplace legal literacy as a practical skill, explaining that understanding the law means recognizing not only regulations but also the relationships among workers, employers, agreements, and the institutions that govern employment.
Participants learned about rights and responsibilities in employment relationships and the distinctions among fixed-term contracts, probationary arrangements, and permanent employment. Irfan emphasized the importance of reading and understanding an employment contract before signing it so workers can make informed decisions and protect themselves from the beginning of their careers.
The session also addressed legal risks in digital activity, which are increasingly relevant for young people who use social media or undertake freelance work. Participants were encouraged to use clear written agreements because proving each party’s rights and responsibilities can become difficult if a dispute arises without adequate documentation.
An interactive discussion and question-and-answer session allowed participants to raise common concerns encountered by students and recent graduates, ranging from employment-contract clauses to risks associated with online and freelance work. The discussion connected legal concepts to realistic situations faced during the transition from education to employment.
Through this webinar, YIIM sought to help young people enter the workplace with greater awareness, confidence, and professional responsibility. The program contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education through accessible legal learning; Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting informed and secure employment; and Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by expanding understanding of rights, agreements, and fair processes.
