Hybrid Barber Training Equips Aspiring Micro and Small Entrepreneurs
YIIM and Insight Investments Management combined online learning with five days of hands-on barber training to help participants build practical skills and pursue sustainable livelihoods.

Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management began a hybrid barbershop-skills program on Thursday, 19 October 2023. The training combined a public online session with an intensive face-to-face course for selected aspiring entrepreneurs.
The Zoom session involved 30 participants from different professions, genders, and age groups, including private-sector workers, boarding-house and coffee-shop attendants, retirees, university students, and homemakers. Participants were aged 25 to 55 and comprised 24 men and six women.
The online class ran from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. After opening remarks and a shared learning agreement, trainers Syaifulloh, owner of Maxximal Barbershop, and Ageng Patmoko, owner of Optima 73 Barbershop, introduced barber equipment, workflow, standard operating procedures, face and hairstyle matching, haircut design, and basic technique.
Participants received a module, observed a live tutorial using a human model, completed a pre-test, joined a discussion, and received online-training certificates.
After selection and interviews, 11 participants, ten men and one woman, advanced to the offline course at the YIIM office in Grand Wijaya Centre, South Jakarta. The five-day training ran from Monday to Friday, 23 to 27 October 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Chrisbiantoro, Chair of YIIM, said the program reflected the partners’ commitment to community empowerment and stronger household economies. He encouraged participants to complete the course so they could apply and share the skills.
The offline curriculum covered the barber profession, tools, haircutting methods, clippers, trimmers, thinning scissors, hands-on cutting, and professional ethics. Participants received comprehensive modules, stationery and tumblers, transport reimbursement, and completion certificates.
The program formed part of Insight’s social and environmental responsibility commitment and contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Salam Inspirasi!
