Thalassaemia Education and Screening Build Prevention Awareness in Bandung
YIIM and its partners reached 160 young people through thalassaemia education, digital outreach, and screening, helping participants understand carrier status and prevention.

On 4 October 2025, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management collaborated with Yayasan Thalassaemia Indonesia to hold a thalassaemia seminar and screening program in Bandung.
Thalassaemia is an inherited blood disorder passed through parents or family members who carry the trait. Because the condition currently has no cure, prevention through knowledge and early screening is especially important. Public understanding in Indonesia, however, remains limited.
West Java had the country’s highest provincial burden, with 4,255 people living with thalassaemia, and Bandung recorded the highest number at city or regency level. The program therefore focused specifically on young people in Bandung under the theme Creating a Zero-Thalassaemia Future.
The prevention campaign combined digital education, a seminar, and blood screening. A total of 160 young people attended, and 142 completed screening.
Before the activity, most participants had little or no knowledge of thalassaemia. After the seminar, they better understood the medical information, inheritance risks, handling, and prevention. One participant said the event explained what thalassaemia is and how it can be managed and prevented. Another said the screening was particularly valuable for members of Generation Z approaching marriage age because it made them more aware of carrier status and future family decisions.
Through the initiative, YIIM, Insight, and Yayasan Thalassaemia Indonesia sought to equip young people to share accurate information with their peers and help prevent new cases in future generations.
Salam Inspirasi!
