The Indonesia Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Pertamina Training and Consulting are always committed to supporting strengthening community independence through a series of inclusive and sustainable empowerment initiatives.

KBRN, Jakarta: PT Pertamina (Persero)’s subsidiary, PT Pertamina Training and Consulting (PTC), collaborates with the Indonesia Building Inspiration Foundation (YIIM) to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Handling of Climate Change and Economic Growth categories.

PTC Assistant Manager for Corporate Communication & CSR, Olivia Steffinda Lasut, revealed that one of the concrete steps was holding hydroponic training for the people of the Jabodetabek area with economic criteria affected by COVID-19, groups of housewives, people with disabilities who don’t have jobs, those who have dropped out of work, former prison residents, young people who have dropped out of school and underprivileged families.

“Through the Social and Environmental Responsibility scheme, PT Pertamina Training and Consulting is partnering with the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation to empower communities to train people to achieve family economic independence through entrepreneurship,” he told journalists, Jakarta, Thursday (14/10/2021).

Olivia said that hydroponic training was chosen as one of the social entrepreneurship trainings as an implementation of the use of small land as urban agriculture and as an effort to reduce carbon emissions from households and the surrounding environment.

Olivia explained that hydroponic training began to be implemented on August 27 2021 online for two days and continued with a monitoring program with a total of 17 participants selected through a series of selection processes.

“Online hydroponics participants receive planting media equipment as a form of hands-on practice and are monitored continuously until harvest time. The hydroponic plants sown are mustard seeds, lettuce, kale and spinach,” he said.

As the peak event and closing of a series of hydroponic training held on Wednesday (13/10/2021), Olivia said, a Grand Hydroponic Vegetable Harvest was carried out for the training participants which was centered at the Humanitarian Power Studio, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, which houses underprivileged communities.

Olivia said that this activity was also accompanied by training in cooking healthy chicken noodles with preservative-free hydroponic vegetables by representatives of hydroponic training participants guided by Sri Wahyuni ​​as chicken noodle culinary mentor and continued with evaluation of hydroponic training by Dwi Astuti Setyaningrum as training facilitator during the mentoring activity.

“This harvest is part of a series of PT Pertamina Training and Consulting TJSL events which began with hydroponic training, this is in line with community empowerment through the use of space for urban agriculture. We hope that this harvest as well as training in cooking organic vegetables can foster an entrepreneurial spirit and strengthen the family economy,” he said.

In this series of programs, Olivia revealed, PTC and YIIM have distributed installations of hydroponic planting media and vegetable seeds to the communities supported by Sanggar DayaHumanity as many as 5 installation units.

Then, continued Olivia, the next stage would be to distribute 5 installations and seeds each to 4 other communities, namely the reading park community for residents of Rumpin Bogor village, the street children’s community assisted by the Pertiwi Pasar Minggu Child Development Foundation, the Indonesian Mandiri Disabled Foundation and the community of underprivileged residents assisted by the Future Generation Creative House in Ciputat.

“And 5 installations and vegetable seeds each for 3 individual general participants outside the selected communities to receive assistance,” he said.

So, Olivia said, in total there will be 40 hydroponic planting media installation assistance for 5 communities which will be handed over by PTC and YIIM as capital infrastructure assistance for businesses to grow healthy vegetables.

According to Olivia, the five communities have participated in the entire series of training and practices for growing healthy hydroponic vegetables. “Training in hydroponic methods will foster a positive and productive hobby,” he said.

In the future, Olivia said, this hydroponic training will be implemented in a sustainable manner which will have an impact on results that will not only be completed during the planting and harvest period, but will also begin the formation of assisted MSMEs with diversification of hydroponic processed products to hydroponic souvenirs with local market share and e-commerce.

“PT Pertamina Training and Consulting together with the Indonesian Building Inspiration Foundation will continue to strive to monitor the development of hydroponic training so that an independent, entrepreneurial society can be formed and the family economy can grow,” he concluded.

Through this synergy and initiative, the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) hopes that the programs implemented can provide real benefits, open up wider opportunities for independence for participants, and actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
