On Thursday, May 25, 2023, the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (YIIM), supported by PT. Insight Investments Management (PT INSIGHT), in collaboration with the Pondok Bambu Class 1 State Detention Center (Rutan), held a ceremonial event to launch a social entrepreneurship training program for the inmates of Pondok Bambu Detention Center. The event took place inside the detention center and began with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (SPK) between Pondok Bambu Detention Center and YIIM.

Pondok Bambu Detention Center is a technical implementation unit in the field of corrections under the regional office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for DKI Jakarta. In addition to holding detainees, Pondok Bambu Detention Center also accepts convicted prisoners. It should be noted that all inmates at this detention center are women.

The event was attended by a total of 83 people, including 35 female training participants from the detention center’s inmates, 30 detention center guards, and the remainder consisting of detention center officials, the Directors and team of PT INSIGHT, the YIIM team, trainers, and invited guests. The event was held at the Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center located at Jalan Pahlawan Revolusi No. 38, RT 04/RW 03, Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta City, DKI Jakarta. The ceremonial agenda took place from 08:30 to 12:00 WIB, starting with the signing of the SPK between YIIM, represented by Mr. Chrisbiantoro, SH., LL.M as Chairperson of the Board, and Mrs. Dewi Sondari, BC.I.P., S.An, Head of the Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center.

The ceremonial event was attended by Mrs. Ria Warganda, Director of PT Investments Management, along with her staff; Chrisbiantoro, S.H., LL.M, Chairperson of the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation, along with his team; Mrs. Dewi Sondari, BC.I.P., S.An, Head of Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center; Noor Farikha, A.Md.IP, S.H., M.H., Head of the Inmate Services Section at Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center, along with other structural officials; and religious leaders, including Ustadz Asep Suryono, Pastor Abraham Hutagalung, and Pastor Ronto Sihombing.

The ceremonial activity began with an opening speech by Mr. Chrisbiantoro, Chairperson of YIIM’s Board. He stated, “YIIM and PT INSIGHT are like father and son; the founders of YIIM are the executives of INSIGHT. We express our gratitude and thanks for being continuously entrusted by PT INSIGHT to conduct entrepreneurship training programs for the female inmates of the detention center in collaboration with Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center. In line with INSIGHT’s tagline, ‘investments to social impact,’ we ensure that a portion of the funds from these investors can provide a positive social impact on the welfare of the inmates. Hopefully, this training will serve as a provision for the inmates to become self-sufficient.”

Then, Mrs. Ria Warganda, Director of PT INSIGHT, gave a speech: “PT INSIGHT is an investment management company founded 20 years ago that manages investor funds placed in the capital market as investments. We have a vision and mission not only to invite and introduce investment but also to make investment beneficial for the surrounding community. Therefore, PT INSIGHT sets aside a portion of company revenues for social and community activities. The community empowerment program through entrepreneurship training for inmates is one of our programs in collaboration with YIIM. We hope this training will be beneficial, and I am very grateful and thankful to Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center for becoming one of our implementing partners in this program.”

Next, Mrs. Noor, officially Noor Farikha, A.Md.IP, S.H., M.H., Head of the Inmate Services Section at Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center, stated, “Since the Covid-19 incident, this is the first time we have held entrepreneurship training sponsored by external parties. We are very grateful and thankful, especially to PT INSIGHT and YIIM, for helping us significantly by organizing this program. Of course, entrepreneurship and skills training programs are greatly needed by the inmates and will be highly beneficial for their future independence.”

During this event, YIIM, PT INSIGHT, and Pondok Bambu Class 1 Detention Center will collaborate to organize a series of community empowerment activities, including training in cooking frozen food, sewing clothes, salon and hairdressing, entrepreneurship management such as marketing strategies and simple financial bookkeeping for SMEs, and a Financial Literacy Seminar, to be held from May to July 2023.

This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 1 on eradicating poverty, Number 8 on decent work and economic growth, and Number 17 on partnerships for the goals.
