The Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) provides assistance to students and teachers at the Wing Ibu Kebayoran Baru Orphanage, South Jakarta so that the learning process remains smooth in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Aid is provided from Saturday (2/5) to Monday (4/5) while celebrating National Education Day on 2 May 2020,” said YIIM administrator Chrisbiantoro in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

It is said that the world of education is one of the sectors most affected by the spread of COVID-19 and for this reason learning and teaching activities (KBM) must continue to run optimally even though they have to be carried out remotely (virtually).

He detailed that the assistance was in the form of 100 reading books so that children in the orphanage could develop their interest in reading, including stationery for children at elementary and middle school levels.

“School from home is something new for our orphanage children, but with the assistance of stationery packages and reading books from YIIM, it will really help the children get through this pandemic,” said the caretaker of the Ibu Lily Wing Orphanage.

Apart from supporting students, YIIM also provides internet quota assistance for teachers in private schools because it was found that many school foundations did not budget internet funds for virtual teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first school to receive this assistance was the Anglo National Christian Elementary School in Cempaka Putih District, Central Jakarta.

Each teacher at the school received assistance of IDR 200,000 which will later be used for virtual teaching to 231 students with an average teaching time of 32 hours a week.

“The school never imagined or planned for the implementation of a school teaching system from home, so from the start of the school year the school did not prepare a budget for teaching or learning mechanisms from home,” said Deputy Principal I SDKN Anglo Martha.

Because of this, he continued, schools cannot provide internet facilities for teachers or for children to undergo this kind of learning system.

YIIM is also supported by PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) and it is hoped that similar assistance can become an example for other social movements to provide support for teachers or students in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this synergy and initiative, the Indonesian Inspiration for Building Foundation (YIIM) hopes that the programs implemented can provide real benefits, open up wider opportunities for independence for participants, and actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
