The Story of Triyana Sari: Culinary Training Alumna Building an Independent Frozen Food Business
Through YIIM's culinary entrepreneurship training and mentoring, Triyana Sari, an underprivileged homemaker from Bekasi, successfully launched an independent frozen food business producing chicken egg rolls. The culinary and product packaging skills acquired empowered her to generate sustainable household income.

Triyana Sari (54), a resilient homemaker born in Tegal on April 8, 1969, currently resides in the Jakasetia area of Bekasi, West Java. Her family faced major economic headwinds after her husband suffered a sudden job layoff in 2018. Aware of her husband’s age of 56, Mrs. Triyana felt driven to generate independent family income, bolstered by her three grown children who have successfully completed their schooling and assist in easing domestic responsibilities.
Becoming an Alumna of YIIM’s Empowerment Training
The turning point in Mrs. Triyana’s journey arose through her active involvement in weekly religious study circles with the Mosque Women’s Council Coordination Body (BKMM). Through announcements shared by BKMM administrators, she seized the opportunity to participate in the frozen food culinary entrepreneurship workshop organized by the Foundation for Inspiring Indonesia’s Development (YIIM).
“The frozen food culinary workshop I attended with YIIM served as an eye-opening platform that enriched my professional outlook. Among all the practical guidance provided by the instructors, the most memorable session was learning to process chicken egg rolls and present them appealingly to command strong market value,” Mrs. Triyana recalled warmly.
Translating Vocational Skills into a Growing Business
Following her training completion, Mrs. Triyana wasted no time applying her culinary expertise to commercial practice. Her initial commercial breakthrough occurred when she was contracted to supply wedding reception refreshments for a family member. Following careful deliberation and family consultation, she prepared 100 servings of fresh dim sum. The resounding success of that debut catering contract catalyzed her home culinary venture, bringing in a continuous stream of catering orders.
Her reputation expanded further when YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), in collaboration with BKMM, held a family financial literacy training session. Mrs. Triyana was commissioned to cater the event, supplying 100 snack packages. Operating with a production cost of IDR 15,000 per box, she successfully earned a clean profit of IDR 1,000,000 from that single engagement.
As demand grows, Mrs. Triyana continues to navigate capital constraints, particularly the absence of a large-capacity commercial deep freezer. Consequently, when handling bulk orders, she must purchase fresh ingredients in multiple phased trips to manage storage. Nevertheless, her determination remains steadfast. “I am continuously formulating my strategic plans for the future to ensure the sustainable progression of my business,” Mrs. Triyana affirmed optimistically.
Salam Inspirasi!
