Domestic organic waste is too often viewed as a disposable burden destined for overburdened municipal landfills. Reversing that narrative, youth groups from five subdistricts took direct action in September 2026, mobilizing their neighbors to convert kitchen scraps into multipurpose eco enzyme cleaner and natural liquid soap.

The field activities served as the practical follow-up to the Koppling (Youth Environmental Care Community) workshop introduced at Festival Inspirasi 2026. Supported by the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management, trained youth stepped up as local environmental facilitators in their respective communities.

Community Workshops Across Five Subdistricts

Youth leaders rolled out community demonstrations and hands-on workshops across five Jakarta subdistricts on September 12, 13, and 20, 2026:

• Bukit Duri, Tebet, South Jakarta (Saturday, 12 September 2026)
• Menteng Atas, Setiabudi, South Jakarta (Sunday, 13 September 2026)
• Bintaro, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta (Sunday, 13 September 2026)
• Pejaten Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta (Sunday, 20 September 2026)
• Cipedak, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta (Sunday, 20 September 2026)

Each youth group tailored the sessions to its neighborhood setting. While some organized workshops at community hall courtyards, others gathered homemakers and neighborhood youth in public green spaces, turning everyday surroundings into informal learning hubs.

Hands-On Waste Conversion and Community Impact

Through interactive demonstrations and workshops, participants gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience in converting domestic organic waste into eco enzymes. Trainees also practiced creating eco-enzyme-based soap suitable for everyday household cleaning needs.

Across the five neighborhoods, residents and youth facilitators successfully practiced producing eco enzymes and eco-friendly soap ready for practical community use.

This neighborhood movement underscores the power of youth-driven environmental education. Skills introduced during a citywide festival have taken root in residential alleys, turning household waste sorting from an abstract concept into daily community habit.

This grassroots initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, notably SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
