Fransisca Natalia P.S., widely known as Sisca, has transformed a barista course into a growing career that now spans coffee-shop ownership, vocational training, and business consulting. At 40, she represents the long-term potential of the economic empowerment program organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun, or YIIM, and PT Insight Investments Management.
Sisca joined the partners’ coffee barista training in 2020 and opened Kedai Kopi Sasca that same year. By 2023, the business had grown to three branches and achieved Indonesian National Standard certification, giving the brand a stronger foundation for continued expansion.
Her second outlet opened at Sampan Bujana Sentra Menteng. In early 2023, she added a third location in Cimanggis through a partnership with Ranup Resto Aceh, where Kedai Kopi Sasca provides the restaurant’s beverage selection. Each expansion has allowed Sisca to test new operating models while extending the reach of her brand.
Sisca has also begun sharing her knowledge with aspiring baristas. She organized two three-day training batches at her coffee shop, with six people joining the first and eight joining the second. Participants paid Rp800,000 for practical instruction and one meal. The curriculum covered barista fundamentals, the use of coffee equipment, and the preparation of several coffee-based beverages.
An unexpected visit created an opportunity to take the training further. The head of a vocational training center under Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower visited the restaurant, observed Sisca’s program, and discussed how she could submit a formal training proposal. The proposed concept went beyond preparing participants for employment. It combined barista skills with entrepreneurship, including cost-of-goods calculations and the overall management of a coffee shop, so graduates could consider starting small businesses of their own.
Sisca decided that the opportunity was too valuable to miss. She began preparing the required documents in early 2023 and established a legal business entity, CV Sasca Bermasa Inspirasi, to meet the partnership requirements. After a three-month process, she secured a one-year collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower’s Bekasi Center for Vocational Training and Productivity.
Each batch under the collaboration runs for 20 days and follows Indonesia’s National Work Competency Standards. Participants complete workplace training and are prepared to receive professional certification from the National Professional Certification Agency, known as BNSP. The first batch, held in April, brought together 16 participants.
As her experience grew, Sisca also became a coffee-business consultant. The work began in late 2022 when a friend asked for guidance on opening a coffee venture. Sisca supported the project from its earliest planning stages until the café was established. Referrals soon followed, and she began advising other entrepreneurs on businesses ranging from mobile coffee carts to full cafés.
Her consulting projects have taken her to Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, and Purwokerto. She visits business locations, reviews their operations, and helps owners strengthen their management practices. Several additional projects were still in development when the original story was published.
Sisca continues to diversify beyond coffee. With support from her husband, who has experience in food and beverage operations, she accepts orders for snack boxes and rice meals. Orders for events at a national television station typically range from 20 to 50 packages.
Her journey shows how one skills-development opportunity can create a wider circle of impact. Sisca has not only built her own enterprise but also created learning opportunities for future baristas and practical guidance for other small-business owners.
