The threat of severe coastal erosion along Java’s northern coast is an urgent reality. In Pantai Bahagia Village, Muara Gembong District, Bekasi Regency, rising sea tides and shoreline erosion continue to submerge land each year, forcing dozens of vulnerable families to abandon inundated homes and relocate.

In response to this ecological crisis and to reinforce coastal community resilience, the Muara Gembong Community & Environmental Empowerment Program was launched, supported by the socially responsible investment initiative Reksa Dana Peduli Masyarakat.

As a cornerstone of this collaborative endeavor, the Pantai Bahagia Village Environmental and Cultural Festival was held on Saturday, March 2, 2019. The festival delivered direct, high-impact interventions for both the environment and local residents, including:

Coastal Restoration: Planting 3,000 mangrove seedlings to establish natural sea-wave barriers and mitigate coastal erosion. Healthcare Services: Free medical checkups and treatment for local elderly citizens, mothers, and children. Next-Generation Ecological Education: Creative storytelling and environmental stewardship workshops for coastal youth to cultivate environmental appreciation. Coastal Cultural Celebration: A vibrant platform celebrating local cultural traditions and strengthening community solidarity.

This joint initiative aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 03 (Good Health and Well-being).

Through these concerted preservation efforts, the program aims not only to regenerate lost coastal greenbelts, but also to nurture resilience, self-reliance, and enduring hope for the people of Pantai Bahagia in confronting future environmental challenges.
