Barbershop Training Builds Skills for Economic Self-Reliance
Ten underprivileged participants and correctional clients completed five days of barber training, mastering tools, haircutting techniques, professional ethics, and customer care.

Masyarakat Terampil dan Berdaya (MATA) is a flagship empowerment program organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) with the support of PT Insight Investments Management. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the program launched a five-day barber entrepreneurship training in Jakarta.
The training engaged 10 participants from economically vulnerable backgrounds as well as correctional clients under the guidance of the Correctional Center (BAPAS).
Over the five days, participants mastered professional barbering equipment, hygienic standards, sectioning, blending, fade techniques, scissor work, clipper management, and beard trimming through direct practice on live models.
Trainers also taught customer service etiquette, salon sanitation, and foundational business management to ensure participants can operate successfully in commercial barbershops or as independent mobile barbers.
This initiative advances SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
Inspiration Greetings!
