The Jakarta metropolitan area faces interconnected environmental challenges, including urban heat islands, air pollution, and the impacts of climate change. In response, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), PT Insight Investments Management, and PT Inovasi Finansial Teknologi (Makmur) collaborated with implementing partner U-Inspire Indonesia to present the Jakarta Weather Detective program, or U-DETECT Jakarta.

This educational program took place at SMAN 48 Jakarta in East Jakarta on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The event brought together 30 high school students divided into 15 pairs, engaging them in interactive learning on environmental monitoring, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and citizen science.

Equipped with simple environmental sensors, each group collected real-time temperature and environmental data across different school zones. Through hands-on experimentation, students explored how built environments, vegetation, and daily activities influence microclimates and urban heat levels.

The activity also featured interactive presentations on climate change, air pollution, and actionable steps students can take to mitigate environmental degradation in their schools and local communities.

Stefanus Dennis Winarto compared the impact of this program to compounding interest in investments: small, consistent contributions can yield extraordinary outcomes over time. He emphasized that U-DETECT demonstrates how investor participation can generate tangible benefits for society.

Representing U-Inspire Indonesia, Giovanni Chyntia Pradipta presented certificates of appreciation to YIIM, Insight, Makmur, and SMAN 48 East Jakarta. U-Inspire also officially handed over the U-DETECT sensor kits to the school to ensure continuous environmental monitoring and ongoing learning.

This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s Asta Cita priorities concerning human resource development, science, technology, education, youth, women, and inclusion. The program also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 13: Climate Action, reflecting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through real-time environmental monitoring.

Inspiration Greetings!
