When Ezra Ollyn joined the Barista and Coffee Entrepreneurship Training conducted by the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management, he possessed a strong passion for coffee but lacked formal technical training and business mentorship.

Throughout the training, Ezra mastered espresso extraction variables, milk steaming chemistry, manual brewing profiles, and cafe operation essentials. Driven by a vision of sustainable business, Ezra went on to establish ‘Kopi Sobi’, an artisanal coffee venture that quickly gained a loyal following.

Ezra distinguished his brand by adopting eco-friendly paper cups, sourcing beans directly from sustainable domestic coffee farmers, and introducing innovative signature mocktail recipes. With continued business incubation support and equipment assistance from YIIM, Kopi Sobi expanded from pop-up events to established catering partnerships and corporate event booths.

Today, Ezra also pays it forward by training aspiring young baristas from marginalized backgrounds, creating a multiplier effect of empowerment in his community.

Ezra’s success embodies the core mission of YIIM and Insight: transforming potential into sustainable economic independence, advancing SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
