On Friday, July 21, 2023, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), in collaboration with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), organized a Financial Literacy Training session entitled “Together Realizing Productive Empowerment for Inmates of State Detention Centers.” The event took place at the Class I Pondok Bambu Women’s Detention Center from 09:40 to 12:00 WIB.

The program officially commenced with remarks from Noor Farikhah, Head of Inmate Services (Kasi Pelayanan Tahanan) at Class I Pondok Bambu Detention Center. In her address, she expressed sincere appreciation: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude and high appreciation to YIIM and INSIGHT for their patient and consistent dedication in providing social entrepreneurship training for our inmates at Pondok Bambu. Today’s session further enriches their competencies with financial literacy, engaging not only inmates but also detention center officers and staff. This training is extraordinarily beneficial in teaching how to manage financial resources wisely, especially for mothers who manage family finances. Furthermore, when our alumni transition into independent entrepreneurs upon release, financial literacy will be indispensable. I encourage every participant to absorb this knowledge wholeheartedly.”

In his opening address, Chrisbiantoro, Chairman of the Board of YIIM, highlighted the strategic synergy between technical vocational skills and financial acumen: “This financial literacy training is organized from the realization that practical vocational skills—such as our previous classes in frozen food preparation, sewing, and hairstyling—are not sufficient on their own to create sustainable social entrepreneurs. Technical capabilities must be paired with disciplined financial planning and sound enterprise management. Our hope is that participants can innovate, grow their micro-enterprises, and implement solid bookkeeping standards to foster economic resilience and long-term stability.”

The financial literacy class engaged 38 participants, consisting of 25 female inmates who had participated in previous vocational programs and 13 detention officers. Moderated by Ega Melindo from YIIM, the training featured Reyhan Adinugraha, Retail Sales, Distribution, and Business Alliances Associate at PT Insight Investments Management, as the primary keynote speaker. Reyhan distributed printed presentation modules covering five core pillars: (a) the importance and benefits of financial literacy, (b) fundamental concepts of financial planning, (c) disciplined budgeting and ideal savings allocation, (d) foundational financial literacy for planning and understanding investments, and (e) various categories of investment vehicles.

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer exchange. In his closing remarks, Reyhan Adinugraha remarked, “Keep your spirits high to continue learning and identifying entrepreneurial opportunities backed by disciplined, resilient financial management. Never hesitate to seek information and reliable references regarding legitimate investment avenues.”

This collaborative financial education program reflects the sustained commitment of YIIM and INSIGHT to support the government’s mandate of transforming correctional facilities into productive training grounds. By equipping inmates with comprehensive life skills, the initiative aims to catalyze broader societal support for correctional economic empowerment and break the cycle of recidivism.
