Since 2018, the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), has nurtured many small entrepreneurs, ranging from coffee businesses, barbershops, to culinary ventures.

These social programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG Number 1 to reduce poverty. Through these programs, YIIM and INSIGHT are committed to encouraging and assisting alumni of entrepreneurship training to establish independent and sustainable businesses and to develop their ventures.

Andini Setiawati (37 years old), commonly known as Dini, is one of the alumni of the cooking entrepreneurship training organized by YIIM and INSIGHT.

She is a housewife with two children attending elementary schools in the Cempaka Putih sub-district.

The Covid-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia in early 2020 was a test for Andini and her family, as her husband, who worked as a watch shop keeper, was laid off for two months and lost his income. This naturally had a significant impact on the family’s earnings to meet daily living needs.

Dini did not give up under these circumstances. She had to work hard to support her two children by starting a cake and pastry order business. With the cooking training she received and the assistance of cooking equipment provided by YIIM and INSIGHT, Dini dared to set up a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) named ‘Dini’s Cake & Cookies’.

The business is located in Cempaka Putih Timur RT 07 RW 04, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta. She maximizes her kitchen and living room at home into a production area for various cakes and snacks.

From this production and sale of various processed cakes, Dini has been able to help her husband meet daily needs. On average, she earns between Rp. 3,000,000 (three million rupiah) and Rp. 4,000,000 (four million rupiah) from her home-based MSME. This condition greatly helps her family and is clear proof of the benefits of the culinary training she once attended.

She runs her business offline and online (WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram). The high interest from consumers has encouraged Dini to continue developing her business, such as by creating various processed frozen food products, including ‘sosis solo’.

Besides actively selling various cakes, Dini is also active in social activities, sharing her cooking knowledge with those in need. In November 2020, Dini was trusted to be a trainer at a cooking training event organized by a state institution, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). The cooking training was provided to assist protected victims of the Bali bomb tragedy. Then, in September 2021, Dini, along with a fellow culinary class alumna, Wanma Yetti, also shared culinary knowledge with training participants organized by YIIM and its partners.

Dini said, ‘I am very grateful to have found the cooking training organized by YIIM and INSIGHT. Thanks to that training and the assistance with business equipment, it has greatly helped me support my husband during difficult times. I am also happy to be able to contribute by spreading goodness and inspiration, just like YIIM and INSIGHT. I hope YIIM and INSIGHT continue to be enthusiastic in providing benefits to people in need and enabling them to become economically independent.’

YIIM and INSIGHT continue to support government programs to reduce poverty and accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. May YIIM’s entrepreneurship training program, supported by INSIGHT, continue to produce MSMEs like Dini’s that can make a positive contribution to the advancement of Indonesia’s economy.
