On Monday, March 22, 2021, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), alongside its primary partner PT Insight Investments Management, conducted a humanitarian outreach event to alleviate the socioeconomic burdens of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This relief mission was dedicated to visually impaired individuals, an especially vulnerable demographic.

The humanitarian provision was delivered to 50 visually impaired members belonging to the Indonesian Visually Impaired Community Cooperative (Komastra Indonesia) in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Each beneficiary received a staple grocery kit valued at IDR 150,000, comprising rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, egg noodles, canned corned beef, sardines, milk, tea, and biscuits.

This distribution was prompted by the acute financial hardship experienced by the visually impaired community. The majority of Komastra members earn their livelihoods as professional massage therapists; however, under pandemic restrictions, massage parlors were shut down indefinitely. Consequently, many were compelled to shift toward selling crackers or salted eggs door-to-door, or singing on the streets as buskers to support their families.

Compounding these vulnerabilities, many members had fallen through the cracks of official social safety net registries. As a result, the community received this compassionate aid from YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management with immense relief and gratitude.

This emergency food security program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger.

The aid parcels were presented in person by the Secretary of the YIIM Executive Board, Dewi Astari, to the Advisor of Komastra Indonesia, Mr. Suparwi. Accepting the aid, Mr. Suparwi shared: "We are deeply joyful and grateful that YIIM and PT Insight have shown genuine compassion for our visually impaired community. Since the pandemic started, every one of our members has struggled to earn a living; this assistance is extraordinarily beneficial. May YIIM achieve continued success."

Mr. Suparwi also highlighted future empowerment needs: "Komastra possesses structured training modules in computer skills and Android smartphone literacy for members, but these are currently suspended due to funding constraints. We hope empathetic partners will assist us so we can resume training for visually impaired individuals in need."

The humanitarian event was documented by national television broadcaster DAAI TV, which covered the distribution to amplify the inspiring message of empathy and inclusive care for individuals with disabilities.
