Participants in YIIM and Insight Investments Management hybrid barber training

Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management kicked off their hybrid barber entrepreneurship training program on Thursday, October 19, 2023. The program combined an open public webinar with an intensive in-person practical course for selected participants.

The online Zoom session was attended by 30 participants from diverse professional backgrounds, genders, and age groups, including private sector employees, boarding house caretakers, coffee shop staff, retirees, university students, and homemakers. Participants ranged from 25 to 55 years old, comprising 24 men and 6 women.

The online class took place from 14:00 to 16:00 WIB. Following opening remarks and learning agreements, two professional instructors—Syaifulloh (owner of Maxximal Barbershop) and Ageng Patmoko (owner of Optima 73 Barbershop)—introduced barbering equipment, shop workflow, standard operating procedures (SOPs), facial shape haircut compatibility, hairstyle design, and fundamental clipping and shaving techniques.

Participants received digital learning modules, observed live haircut demonstrations on human models, took pre-tests, engaged in active discussions, and earned online certificates of participation.

Following a curation and interview process, the top 11 participants—10 men and 1 woman—were selected to advance to the in-person practical training at YIIM’s office in Grand Wijaya Centre, South Jakarta. The hands-on training ran for five full days from Monday to Friday, October 23–27, 2023, from 09:00 to 15:30 WIB.

Chrisbiantoro, Chairman of the YIIM Board, noted that this program reflects the partnership’s commitment to empowering communities and bolstering family economies. He encouraged participants to master all materials so they could practice and share their skills.

The practical curriculum covered the ins and outs of the barber profession, equipment mastery, scissor and clipper/trimmer cutting techniques, using various guard attachments, live model haircutting practice, and customer service ethics. Participants received comprehensive printed modules, stationery, tumblers, transportation allowances, and vocational graduation certificates.

This program embodies Insight’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility and supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Inspiration Greetings!
