The Indonesian Inspiration for Development Foundation (YIIM), in collaboration with the Jakarta Pusat Correctional Center (BAPAS), held a Social Entrepreneurship in Clothing Screen Printing Training for 10 correctional clients, consisting of 9 men and 1 woman, for 5 (five) days from March 15 to 19, 2021, while adhering to health protocols in the context of preventing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event began with the Opening of the Screen Printing Training and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between YIIM and BAPAS Jakarta Pusat, in order to extend the cooperation that was first established in 2018.

Since 2018, YIIM has consistently worked with BAPAS Jakarta Pusat to assist correctional clients in getting through the transition period. Additionally, they train clients to acquire skills that can be used for entrepreneurship or as a provision for seeking employment. Previous entrepreneurship trainings include coffee barista training, AC service, barbering, and culinary arts.

The MoU signing took place at the Class 1 BAPAS Jakarta Pusat Office, located at Jalan Percetakan Negara VIII No 54, RW 04, Rawasari, Cempaka Putih Subdistrict, Central Jakarta, DKI Jakarta Province.

This empowerment activity is also in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 1 on eradicating poverty, Number 8 on decent work and economic growth, and Number 17 on partnerships to achieve the goals.

The MoU signing process was represented directly by Mr. Chrisbiantoro, Chair of the YIIM Board, and Mr. Heru Prasetyo, Head of BAPAS Jakarta Pusat. The event was also attended by the training participants, who are BAPAS Jakarta Pusat clients, and online and television media colleagues.

Since the pandemic, many people, especially former prison inmates, have found it difficult to earn an income and get jobs. YIIM and BAPAS Jakarta Pusat hope that this collaboration can have a positive impact on the clients. “We hope that amid this pandemic, where the economy is increasingly difficult, correctional clients must remain optimistic and make the best use of this opportunity by consistently participating in the training. Do not waste it,” said Chrisbiantoro.

Mr. Chrisbiantoro also added that this training must be utilized as well as possible so that clients can get through this transition period well. “We continue to strive to assist clients so they can get through the transition process well,” said Chrisbiantoro.

According to Mr. Heru Prasetyo, many BAPAS clients have been successfully assisted by YIIM, therefore BAPAS Jakarta Pusat did not hesitate to continue the MoU with YIIM. “It would be a shame if they left us, that’s why we continue our cooperation,” stressed Mr. Heru.

“We hope that our clients can make use of the training facilitated by YIIM. And, take part sincerely, so that it can become a provision for themselves and their families,” added Heru Prasetyo.
