Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), backed by corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from PT Insight Investments Management, launched two simultaneous vocational training programs for correctional clients, the urban poor, informal day laborers, and other vulnerable communities.

For the first cohort, air conditioning (AC) cleaning, maintenance, and freon recharging training was conducted on March 4–6, 2020, at the YIIM Headquarters in Grand Wijaya Centre Complex, Jalan Wijaya II Block F/62B, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

Meanwhile, for the second cohort, manual apparel screen printing training took place from March 9 to March 13, 2020, at the Central Jakarta Correctional Center (Bapas Kelas I Jakarta Pusat), Jalan Percetakan Negara VIII No. 54, Rawasari, Central Jakarta.

Chairman of the YIIM Board, Chrisbiantoro, noted in a press release, “This training marks an ongoing expansion of the vocational programs continuously championed by YIIM, building upon our established tracks in barbering, culinary arts, and coffee barista training.”

Chrisbiantoro elaborated, “Economic empowerment is an essential human right—specifically the right to work and to achieve an adequate standard of living, as enshrined in the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).”

He further highlighted that this vocational initiative directly corresponds with the government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, specifically Goal 1: No Poverty and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Chrisbiantoro affirmed that YIIM remains committed to nurturing social entrepreneurship, where the paramount measure of success is expansive social impact and public benefit rather than commercial profit alone.

Throughout both programs, trainees exhibited earnest enthusiasm and discipline in following every technical instruction. In the AC workshop, master trainer Suaib provided in-depth theory and supervised hands-on exercises in fault diagnostics, routine maintenance, and safe freon gas recharging. In the apparel printing workshop, instructor Risky Pratama detailed chemical emulsion ratios, stencil creation, and full production workflows required to achieve commercial-grade print finishes.

AC servicing and garment screen printing were strategically selected by YIIM due to their practical accessibility for grassroots entrepreneurs and their lucrative market opportunities in urban settings.

Participants expressed sincere dedication to mastering these vocational disciplines, determined to utilize their new competencies as springboards to establish independent small businesses.

YIIM firmly believes that progressively expanding beneficiary outreach through vocational training—pursued since 2016—will continue cultivating grassroots entrepreneurs capable of invigorating local economic growth.

To date, numerous alumni of YIIM’s vocational economic empowerment initiatives have successfully established independent micro-enterprises and secured sustainable livelihoods.
