Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), as an altruistic non-profit organization dedicated to human development, places community economic empowerment at the very core of its mission.

As a contributing pillar of national development, YIIM consistently advances socioeconomic progress across Indonesia, particularly through grassroots economic resilience. This mission aligns seamlessly with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably Goal 1: No Poverty and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as codified in Presidential Regulation No. 59 of 2017 on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

While operating within defined cohorts, YIIM is convinced that its dedication since its founding in 2014 continues to yield broad, transformative benefits for participants enrolled across its economic empowerment and vocational tracks.

On this occasion, YIIM commenced its Aspiring Barber Training Program Batch 1 for the 2020 Program Year. This vocational empowerment initiative was made possible through the enduring support of YIIM’s primary corporate partner, PT Insight Investments Management.

Batch 1 of 2020 enrolled 15 participants representing diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, including school dropouts, informal gig workers, unemployed youth, and formerly incarcerated individuals supervised by the Central Jakarta Correctional Center (Bapas Kelas I Jakarta Pusat).

This intensive training commenced on Monday, February 10, 2020, and ran through Friday, February 14, 2020.

During the opening ceremony, Secretary of Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), Dewi Astari, outlined the strategic vision of the program: “YIIM focuses on economic empowerment for both urban and rural communities. In urban environments, professional barber training is one of our most effective flagship programs,” Dewi stated.

Dewi added, “Our sincere hope for all participating trainees is that the skills acquired here will serve as a viable foundation to build self-reliance as successful entrepreneurs in the barbering industry.”

Following the opening ceremony, lead trainer Syaifulloh introduced foundational cutting theories, hair texture analysis, hygiene principles, and professional barbering tool handling. Syaifulloh is himself a graduate of YIIM’s inaugural barber training program. In leading this cohort, he was assisted by two assistant trainers who are also alumni of previous YIIM cohorts.

Participants displayed enthusiastic commitment throughout each module, culminating in hands-on haircutting practice on volunteer models arranged by the committee. Throughout the sessions, Syaifulloh patiently supervised trainees, ensuring precise execution aligned with professional standards.

This foundational training also functions as an initial selection phase. In accordance with YIIM’s structured incubation roadmap, qualified participants demonstrating outstanding aptitude will advance to a 2-month professional apprenticeship followed by 3 months of business incubation at YIIM’s social enterprise barbershops located in Rawabelong, West Jakarta, and Beji, Depok.

YIIM’s ultimate priority is to shepherd trainees through this comprehensive incubation pipeline, ensuring they become fully equipped and self-assured to launch independent barbershop micro-enterprises. By cultivating new entrepreneurs, YIIM strives to generate fresh employment opportunities and actively contribute to the alleviation of poverty and joblessness.
