On Saturday, May 6, 2023, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), provided sponsorship and support to a talented young barista, Nur Rohim Laras Setia (24 years old), who qualified to compete in the prestigious national-level Indonesian Barista Championship (IBC) 2023 held at Hall D1 JIExpo Kemayoran, East Pademangan, Central Jakarta, DKI Jakarta.

This youth talent empowerment initiative is in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and Skills Training, as well as SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Nur Rohim Laras Setia is an accomplished young woman from Pekanbaru, Riau, widely recognized for her active advocacy in arts and creative cultural initiatives. While completing her undergraduate degree in Communication Science at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau in Pekanbaru, she also works professionally as a specialty coffee barista at a local coffee establishment.

After triumphing in rigorous regional qualifying rounds, Nur Rohim emerged as one of only 12 national barista contestants chosen to represent Riau Province at the three-day national Indonesian Barista Championship (IBC) 2023 in Jakarta. In the country’s premier barista competition, participants were scrutinized by certified judges on their specialty coffee brewing mastery, sensory balance, technical extraction, and verbal presentation skills.

To support her journey on the national stage, YIIM and PT INSIGHT disbursed an operational grant of IDR 10,000,000 to cover her tournament needs in Jakarta. During the championship, Nur Rohim delivered an outstanding performance by securing a place among the top 12 national baristas, although she did not advance to the six-finalist round. Reaching the top 12 at the national level against the nation’s most seasoned veteran baristas stands as an enormous achievement and a source of pride for Riau Province.

Nur Rohim conveyed her appreciation: “Even though I did not claim the top title, I am extraordinarily proud to have represented Riau in the national barista arena. My competitors were seasoned veterans who have competed in this championship for years. I am deeply grateful to YIIM and PT INSIGHT for their immense support that empowered me to reach this milestone.”

Chairman of YIIM, Chrisbiantoro, praised her perseverance: “Congratulations to Nur Rohim on her remarkable performance at IBC 2023 in Jakarta.
