Vocational Makeup and Hairstyling Training for Persons with Disabilities, Correctional Clients, and Underprivileged Communities
YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management conducted a two-day cosmetology and hairdressing training for disabled individuals, probation clients, and disadvantaged locals, teaching facial makeup application and practical haircutting on live models.

On 23 – 24 August 2022, the Indonesian Inspiration to Build Foundation (YIIM) together with PT. Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) held a Makeup and Hairdressing Training program. This training program is a form of INSIGHT’s commitment to participate in helping communities amid the Covid-19 pandemic so that they can have economic creativity. The Makeup and Hairdressing Training is part of the Community Empowerment Program. This training aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 1, reducing poverty, and number 10, reducing inequality.
The training began with an opening by Dewi Astari as a YIIM board member. She stated, “Thank you to YIIM’s main partner, INSIGHT, which has supported all programs including the Community Empowerment Program. Skills training at YIIM is different from other training institutions, because our training is social entrepreneurship training where after the training, the knowledge gained is not only for entrepreneurship but also can be taught to others.”
The training was held from 10:00 WIB to 16:00 WIB. There were 14 participants attending the Makeup and Hairdressing Training, including 5 participants with disabilities, 3 participants who are probation (BAPAS) clients, and 6 participants from the general public. The training participants were guided by the trainer Regita Cahyani, who is one of the alumni of the makeup training developed by YIIM and INSIGHT. Regita Cahyani is currently independent and has started a makeup business called Gitaacms Wedding.
On the first day, the material covered theoretical explanations about facial skin and makeup tools, as well as hands-on simulation of cleaning and applying makeup directly demonstrated. Afterwards, the session continued with all participants practicing independently on the makeup techniques taught by the trainer. On the second day of training, participants practiced applying makeup directly on models, followed by a hairdressing practice session. During the two days of training sessions, the activities were interactive, with the trainer always checking the condition and progress of participants applying their makeup. The participants were very active in asking questions to the trainer, ranging from questions about makeup usage to how to start a makeup business for beginners. At the closing session, participants shared their impressions and messages, and then it concluded with certificate distribution and a group photo session.
The makeup and hairdressing training provided by YIIM together with INSIGHT aims to create entrepreneurs in the field of facial makeup who can serve customers in a mobile manner (pick-up orders). YIIM, as a non-profit institution, is very open to all parties who want to support or donate in any form. Because every donation given to YIIM will be distributed directly to the rightful beneficiaries.
