Abdurrahman Munif’s Journey: Outstanding Environmental Engineering Graduate from UI Becomes Ministry of Public Works Consultant
Through a full higher education scholarship and active involvement in environmental conservation programs from YIIM and PT Insight Investments Management, Abdurrahman Munif successfully graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering from Universitas Indonesia.

Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) together with PT. Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) would like to share the profile of one of the recipients of the educational scholarship program, named ABDURRAHMAN MUNIF.
He successfully earned his Bachelor of Environmental Engineering degree at the University of Indonesia (UI) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.43 (three point forty-three).
Munif is certainly not complacent about having graduated with a GPA of 3.43; he still has the desire to continue writing and publishing articles and journals in international conferences. This is a hope he shared with the YIIM team.
After graduating from the University of Indonesia with a thesis discussing river management in Depok, he was then accepted to work as a planning consultant at the Ministry of PUPR (Public Works and Public Housing).
Munif is grateful for his achievements; he has been able to realize his dream, make his parents proud, and contribute to Indonesia’s development by becoming a consultant at the Ministry of PUPR.
“May there be more underprivileged and less fortunate students who can be helped through the YIIM and INSIGHT scholarship programs.” Munif hoped.
Who is Abdurrahman Munif?
Abdurrahman Munif, or commonly called Munif, is the first child of two siblings. Since high school, he has had the desire to study Environmental Engineering.
His interest in environmental empowerment using scientific methods encouraged him to join the Youth Scientific Work community in high school and to organize several activities, including hydroponic farming, plant empowerment and nursery using aeroponics, and making compost or organic fertilizer.
Because of his love for environmental conservation and empowerment, Munif eventually took the State University Entrance Selection (SBMPTN) and was accepted into the Environmental Engineering department at the University of Indonesia.
Munif is proud to be part of the Environmental Engineering student community. However, he was worried that studying at university would burden his parents, considering that his father no longer works and only takes care of his grandmother at home. The family’s economy is supported by his mother, who is a private employee.
Relying only on his mother’s income, this condition certainly made Munif anxious, and he sought educational assistance to ease the cost of college.
Finally, he tried his luck in applying for scholarship assistance from YIIM and INSIGHT. He was selected as one of the students eligible to receive a scholarship from YIIM and INSIGHT. Munif did not waste this momentum to complete his education and to reassure himself that his college education would not burden his parents.
In addition to receiving tuition assistance, YIIM and INSIGHT also helped cover his daily living expenses while studying at the University of Indonesia.
Achievement-Oriented and Actively Promoting Environmental Conservation
During college, Munif was not only active in the classroom; he was also actively involved in social activities, especially those related to the environment.
Munif has written a scientific journal published by IOP Publishing, a globally recognized academic journal publication.
The international journal published by IOP is based on his research on waste management in the Citarum River.
Munif has been a volunteer for YIIM and INSIGHT programs several times, including the Baduy Cultural Service Program and Coral Reef Planting on Tunda Island.
In addition to working with YIIM, Munif has also participated in several social work programs held on his campus. These social programs included the construction of water sources and public sanitation facilities (MCK) in densely populated rural areas in Sukabumi and Banten that lacked access to clean water and sanitation.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals
This educational scholarship assistance program is a form of commitment by YIIM and INSIGHT to realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 4 on Quality Education.
This commitment is realized by providing scholarship assistance programs for underprivileged and high-achieving students like Abdurrahman Munif.
Interestingly, in addition to SDG Number 4, Munif also contributes to supporting environmental SDGs, including SDG Number 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and promoting reforestation to prevent climate change, as outlined in SDG Number 13. **
Salam Inspirasi!
