Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), in collaboration with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), is dedicated to advancing the economic self-reliance of vulnerable populations through social entrepreneurship and vocational training programs tailored for underprivileged and marginalized individuals. This comprehensive development work directly advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

A heartwarming demonstration of this intervention is the journey of M. Akmal Fudzahyani (28 years old), known affectionately as Akmal. The eldest of three siblings, Akmal is an alumnus of the 2019 social entrepreneurship barista training organized jointly by YIIM and PT INSIGHT. Today, he lives with his parents and younger sibling in Jakarta, serving as a pillar of household support.

Embracing a Fresh Chapter in the World of Specialty Coffee

Prior to becoming a skilled barista, Akmal was a correctional client guided by the Central Jakarta Correctional Center (BAPAS Jakarta Pusat). In late 2019, following his release from a correctional facility (LAPAS), his designated Community Advisor (Pembimbing Kemasyarakatan / PK) recommended that he register for the social entrepreneurship barista training program offered by YIIM and INSIGHT.

Throughout the training, Akmal exhibited exemplary perseverance, attentiveness, and dedication. His focus earned him a competitive placement in a structured internship at Kedai Kopi Inspirasi—a social enterprise incubation hub operated by YIIM. Undertaking this internship in early 2020 for three to four months, Akmal immersed himself in mastering the craft of coffee preparation, despite having possessed no prior affinity for coffee.

"I was so delighted and grateful to be given the chance to intern at Kopi Inspirasi. Prior to this, I didn't even enjoy drinking coffee. I never imagined that my life's path would plunge into the craft of coffee, entirely sparked by attending YIIM's vocational training," Akmal reflected warmly.

From Vocational Apprentice to Permanent Barista

Following his apprenticeship at Kedai Kopi Inspirasi, YIIM facilitated job placement channels across its commercial hospitality network. Akmal transitioned into a secondary internship at Kafe Pulo Pulo located in Kalibata, South Jakarta. Recognizing his work ethic and technical aptitude, the cafe hired him as a full-time permanent barista—a role he retains today. Earning a steady monthly income of approximately Rp 4,300,000, Akmal expresses profound gratitude for being able to financially support his parents and household with dignity.

Even with secure employment, Akmal's passion for professional development remains relentless. He routinely enriches his knowledge of coffee brewing techniques via online educational resources and frequently consults his original training mentors from YIIM. This determination ensures that his craft continues to evolve.

Looking ahead, Akmal aspires to hone his entrepreneurial competencies to eventually establish his own specialty coffee venture, while maintaining steadfast professionalism in his career as a barista.

Concluding his reflection, Akmal expressed his appreciation and aspirations for YIIM and INSIGHT: "May YIIM and INSIGHT continue to prosper and expand. Thank you for consistently uplifting grassroots communities by developing vocational skills, enabling people to rebuild their livelihoods and build a brighter socioeconomic future."

Salam Inspirasi!
