Artesian Borehole Well Piping Construction Delivers Clean Water for Farming Communities in Wonogiri and Ponorogo
YIIM, PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), and Yayasan Gemah Mustika Insani constructed clean water piping networks in Jatinom Village (Wonogiri) and Gelangkulon Village (Ponorogo). The infrastructure delivers reliable clean water directly to rural homes facing persistent drought.

Continuing the deep borehole artesian well construction program launched in 2021, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), alongside PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), distributed clean water artesian well piping infrastructure in May 2023. To implement the piping network, YIIM and INSIGHT collaborated on the ground with Yayasan Gemah Mustika Insani (YGMI) as the field operational partner.
The piping assistance was distributed across two rural villages in Central Java and East Java. The first location was established in Dusun Wates, Jatinom Village, Sidoharjo District, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, with construction completed between May 13 and May 28, 2023. The 800-meter distribution pipeline delivers clean water directly to 15 households (48 individuals), irrigates 10 agricultural plots, and supplies water to a communal cemetery and pilgrimage site.
The second site was installed in Dusun Sodong, Gelangkulon Village, Sampung District, Ponorogo Regency, East Java, with work carried out from May 13 to June 2023. The 370-meter piping network serves 10 households (40 individuals), irrigates 10 productive agricultural farmland parcels, and provides clean ablution water for Masjid Shirothol Mustaqim.
Prior to this intervention, the residents of Dusun Wates in Wonogiri relied almost entirely on rain-fed agricultural fields. During the dry season, farmlands lay dormant and unproductive due to drought. Located in high-altitude terrain with scarce water reservoirs, residents were forced to walk 2 kilometers to natural riverside water pockets. Seasonal flooding frequently turned river water turbid and washed away makeshift delivery hoses. Following the completion of YIIM and INSIGHT’s piping installation, villagers now travel only 200 to 400 meters to access abundant, crystal-clear water.
Similarly, the residents of Dusun Sodong in Gelangkulon Village, Ponorogo, reside on rocky, steep slopes where access to clean water was historically arduous. During dry periods, community members had to trek 700 meters across rugged terrain to collect water. With the installation of the artesian well piping system, the retrieval distance has dropped dramatically to merely 150 meters, ensuring convenient and hygienic domestic water access.
Isnaeni Setiawan, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Coordinator of PT Insight Investments Management, affirmed the firm’s overarching mission: “PT Insight Investments Management is an investment management company with a unique philosophy: we invite our clients to invest while simultaneously creating lasting social good for society and nature, in line with our guiding principle ‘Transforming Investments to Social Impact’ through CSR initiatives. This piping procurement directly addresses the critical needs of rural households and smallholder farmers. We hope these water pipes mitigate dry-season water scarcity and boost agricultural productivity.”
To ensure system durability, the operational maintenance of water pump machinery and electrical installations is overseen by YIIM and YGMI in close coordination with village officials and community representatives in both Dusun Wates, Jatinom Village and Gelangkulon Village. The clean water from the artesian boreholes is provided completely free of charge for daily domestic needs, farming irrigation, mosque ablution, and public grounds. The infrastructure serves as an enduring social investment that will benefit generations to come.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Furthermore, it supports the government’s national priority to develop superior human capital, where access to potable water and proper sanitation forms the cornerstone of community health.
As a non-profit foundation, YIIM warmly welcomes collaboration and charitable contributions from all individuals, corporations, and institutions. Every donation received is channeled directly, responsibly, and transparently to eligible beneficiaries.
Salam Inspirasi!
