Solar-powered fishing livelihood support in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara

Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) supported by PT Insight Investments Management partnered with Yayasan Insan Bumi Mandiri to empower coastal livelihoods and environmental sustainability through the Desa Energi (Energy Village) Program in Boleng Darat, Tanjung Boleng Village, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The program installed an off-grid solar panel system, battery storage, power inverters, ice-making machines, and two 600-liter solar cold storage units, providing clean, continuous refrigeration for coastal fishermen who previously had no access to electricity.

Additionally, the program donated 5 motorized fishing boats, 20 fishing rod kits, and 20 multi-layered fishing nets to 37 local fishermen and their families.

The intervention was complemented by financial literacy coaching, fish processing workshops for women’s groups, and family health education.

This project advances SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 14: Life Below Water.
