Water resources are key to community life, environmental sustainability, and national economic resilience, both domestically and internationally. Meeting the need for raw and clean water remains a challenge for regencies and cities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province due to watershed damage and forest ecosystem degradation. Data from 2019 indicated that 75 percent of NTT residents had access to sustainable water sources. This figure only refers to the availability of water sources and has not yet fulfilled other basic rights, such as good service standards including pipelines and affordable water prices for the population (www.mongabay.co.id).

In 2022, the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM), supported by PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) through its Humanitarian Social program, provided assistance for the procurement of clean water drilling wells and reservoirs for the indigenous community of Kampung Praiyawang, Rindi District, East Sumba Regency, NTT. This program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG no. 3 on health, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, and SDG no. 6, which ensures availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Furthermore, this program supports one of the government’s three priority programs, namely superior Human Resources (HR), where access to clean water and proper sanitation is a key determinant of a person’s health quality.

The clean water assistance from YIIM and INSIGHT was provided to those in need, located in an indigenous village area where the community relies on livestock farming for their livelihood. Before receiving the clean water well assistance, the indigenous community of Kampung Praiyawang typically obtained clean water by purchasing it from sellers via water tank trucks.

The construction of the clean water well began in January and was completed in March 2022, encompassing the surveying process, customary ceremonies, well drilling, pump installation, foundation casting for the reservoir, and installation of the pipe network system.

On June 2, 2022, a Well Inauguration Ceremony was held, attended by Dewi Astari as Secretary of YIIM, Haryo Sandono as Head of Marketing Institution at PT Insight Investments Management, Hudi Prihmono as Operational Director of DAPENBUN, A. Evan Triwisno Durusing as Head of the General Affairs Section at PTPN XIV, as well as NTT native son Mr. Ir. Fary Djemy Francis, M.Ma, along with the Village Head, Traditional Leader Tamu Umbu Nggaba, and the District Head and residents of Kampung Priyawang, Rindi Village, Rindi District, East Sumba Regency.

President Director of PT Insight Investments Management, Ekiawan Primaryanto added, “This CSR activity is a sustainable commitment from INSIGHT in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to fulfill healthy and prosperous lives while also providing proper clean water and sanitation. INSIGHT also wishes to thank all parties who helped realize this water well, especially our Insight Investors who have contributed by continuing to invest in Insight Mutual Fund products. Because INSIGHT sets aside a portion of its income to allocate to various CSR activities, one of which is this water well. We hope this can provide benefits for the entire community here.”

In her remarks, Dewi Astari stated, “We are fully supported by PT Insight Investments Management for yet another time, collaborating with the Plantation Pension Fund to provide benefits to the community through humanitarian social programs for clean water wells for the residents of Priyawang village. This program is a form of our concern for the importance of clean water availability and sanitation for the community, and in support of SDG goals no. 3 and no. 6. The successful construction of this water well is also a manifestation of synergy among all parties involved for the welfare of the Sumba community. We hope this well brings many benefits to the indigenous community of Kampung Priyawang and also to tourists visiting Priyawang Village.”

Additionally, DAPENBUN representative Hudi Prihmono conveyed, “DAPENBUN is committed to the community, particularly the plantation community, and based on input and considerations from the Director of PTPN XIV, today we can together witness the establishment of the Priyawang Indigenous Village water well. This well was built from January and completed in March. Creating a healthy and prosperous community is our hope. Through its CSR programs, DAPENBUN always collaborates with the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation and PT Insight Investments Management as DAPENBUN’s work partners. We hope this water well is beneficial, well-maintained, and preserved, so that the entire surrounding community can obtain clean water.”

The assistance was handed over directly to the Village Head of Priyawang, consisting of one submersible pump, three water tanks with a capacity of 5,200 Liters each, three stone-masonry tank pedestals, 400 meters of 1.5-inch HDPE pipe installation, and the cost for a 2,200 Watt PLN electricity meter installation. Currently, 18 taps are installed on the water pipeline from the reservoir to the traditional houses and public facilities including the auxiliary health center (puskesmas pembantu). Approximately 200 people in the indigenous village of Praiyawang have benefited from the clean water assistance provided by YIIM and INSIGHT. Through this program, the indigenous community has also been helped to care for various livestock, which serve as a source of income for them.

Because every donation given to YIIM will be channeled directly to deserving and underprivileged beneficiaries.
