On May 29–31, 2023, the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM), together with PT. Insight Investments Management (PT INSIGHT), resumed its collaboration with the Class I State Detention Center (Rutan) Pondok Bambu by organizing a social entrepreneurship cooking training program (Frozen Food) for the detainees of Rutan Pondok Bambu.

This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1 (No Poverty), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The training was conducted inside the Class I Pondok Bambu Detention Center, located at Jalan Pahlawan Revolusi No. 38, RT 04/RW 03, Pondok Bambu, Kec. Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta. The training sessions were held half-day, from 09:00 WIB to 12:00 WIB.

The training activity began with opening remarks from Mr. Achmad Fanani Rosyidi, a representative of YIIM. He stated, “This social entrepreneurship cooking training program (Frozen Food) is a Community Empowerment Program for the detainees of Rutan Pondok Bambu, supported by PT. Insight Investments Management (PT INSIGHT) in collaboration with the Class I State Detention Center (Rutan) Pondok Bambu. This training aims to provide skills and benefits for the detainees, ranging from hard skills training to soft skills training such as Entrepreneurship Management (Financial Bookkeeping for MSMEs and Marketing Strategies) and financial literacy.”

A total of 15 participants, detainees of Rutan (female detainees), joined the social entrepreneurship cooking training (Frozen Food) for three days. Participants were taught how to make various frozen food dishes. The training materials included practical sessions on making chicken nuggets, chicken dim sum, stuffed tofu (tahu bakso), chicken egg rolls, as well as calculating the business costs of frozen food and packaging the dishes.

For the social entrepreneurship cooking training (Frozen Food), participants were divided into five groups, with each group consisting of three participants. Each participant received a training module containing recipes and instructions on how to prepare the dishes.

For each recipe taught, the instructors explained the ingredients used to make the frozen food. By referring to the modules and listening to the instructors’ guidance, participants practiced directly how to process the ingredients, starting from combining dry ingredients such as wheat flour, pepper, and salt with wet ingredients like chicken meat, followed by shaping the food. For example, for the chicken dim sum menu, participants were taught how to fill the dim sum skin with the dough that each group had prepared. After the cooking process, participants were taught how to package food for a frozen food business. Each participant had the opportunity to directly practice the training recipes under the direct supervision of the trainers.

During the training, participants were given opportunities for question and answer sessions with the instructors. Challenges encountered during the training included suboptimal concentration due to other obligations that had to be fulfilled simultaneously. Another constraint was the limited time duration of the training sessions.

The hope of this training is that participants can contribute by creating food menu variations for the detainees. After serving their sentence, participants can return to society and start a business with the knowledge gained and assistance from YIIM and PT INSIGHT.

The trainers for the social entrepreneurship cooking training (Frozen Food) were Mrs. Wanmayetty and Mrs. Susilawati Muryani Berlian. Both are alumni of previous cooking training programs organized by YIIM, and they have both successfully built independent businesses in the culinary field at the micro and small scale.

Mrs. Susilawati is an alumna from a training background as a former detainee of the Class I Correctional Center (BAPAS Class I) Central Jakarta. The culinary knowledge possessed by Mrs. Wanmayetty and Mrs. Susilawati came from YIIM training supported by PT INSIGHT and partners, one of which was Titan Baking Bakery in Cikajang, South Jakarta. This knowledge was shared with the detainees of Rutan Pondok Bambu through cooking classes.

On the third day, at the closing of the training series, participants received training certificates which were presented directly by Dewi Sondari, BC.I.P., S.An, as the Head of Class I Pondok Bambu Detention Center, and Mr. Isnaeni Setiawan, as the CSR Coordinator of PT INSIGHT.

As a non-profit organization, YIIM is very open to all parties who wish to support or contribute donations in any form. Because every donation given to YIIM will be distributed directly to the rightful beneficiaries.
