Jakarta, October 7, 2024 – Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM), in collaboration with Insight Investments Management, conducted a community empowerment initiative through a three-day Air Conditioner (AC) Cleaning and Servicing Vocational Training held from October 2 to 4, 2024. The program aimed to equip participants with technical expertise to improve their economic conditions through self-reliant AC servicing entrepreneurship. The training was attended by 10 participants from varied vulnerable backgrounds, including individuals affected by corporate layoffs (PHK), online motorcycle taxi drivers, and unemployed youths. The workshop was instructed by Isnaini Hasan, an alumnus of YIIM’s 2020 AC Vocational Training who has successfully launched his own service enterprise, Ar-Rayyaan Teknik, while serving as a senior cooling technician at a vehicular refrigeration enterprise.

On the opening day, participants undertook a baseline pre-test to gauge initial familiarity with cooling appliances. The trainer subsequently delivered foundational lectures on AC operating mechanisms, explaining thermodynamic heat exchange cycles within enclosed spaces. Instruction further covered mechanical component identification, thermal load calculation formulas to match room dimensions with cooling capacities (PK), and electrical circuit diagnostics. Mastering electrical analysis is essential for technicians during early diagnostic troubleshooting. The first day concluded with guidelines on professional work ethics for technicians.

On the second day, instruction progressed to the chemical properties of refrigerants (freon) and the practical handling of diagnostic tools such as clamp meters. Participants practiced installing copper refrigeration tubing and refilling R410A refrigerant, an indispensable competency for field technicians. Next, trainees performed complete unit disassembly and assembly, examining the inner mechanisms while learning systematic fault isolation techniques. Trainees subsequently conducted precision pipe cutting and flaring, a vital step where absolute accuracy prevents refrigerant leaks and ensures optimal cooling efficiency.

On the third day, the training concentrated on high-pressure cleaning methodologies for indoor and outdoor AC units. Prior to hands-on practice, the trainer demonstrated standard operating procedures (SOP), illustrating water-spray angles, pressure levels, and electrical waterproofing. Participants then executed complete washdowns adhering to the demonstrated SOP. This program aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Through this AC Cleaning and Servicing Vocational Training, YIIM aspires to empower vulnerable community members to participate actively in the productive economy, providing trainees with practical competencies to launch their own independent micro-enterprises.
