Kamal Eco Festival 2023: Building Environmental Science Literacy and Youth Creative Entrepreneurship
YIIM, PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), and CT ARSA Foundation organized the Kamal Eco Festival 2023 themed "Jago Literasi, Jaga Bumi" in Kamal, West Jakarta. The event showcased green innovation exhibitions, recycling bazaars, and youth environmental literacy showcases.

On December 8, 2023, in Kamal Urban Village, West Jakarta, the CT ARSA Foundation, in strategic collaboration with the Foundation for Inspiring Indonesia’s Development (YIIM) and PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), hosted the Kamal Eco Festival 2023 under the banner “Literacy Champions, Earth Guardians” (Jago Literasi, Jaga Bumi). The festival served as the grand culmination of the comprehensive environmental empowerment initiative known as the ARSA Adventure. The gathering showcased an inspiring collection of creative works produced by local children and community members through interactive workshops, green innovation showcases, eco-friendly bazaars, and vibrant cultural performances.
The ARSA Adventure: Literacy Champions, Earth Guardians program is an integrated environmental literacy initiative spearheaded by CT ARSA Foundation alongside YIIM and INSIGHT. The initiative aims to instill widespread ecological awareness and catalyze community behavioral shifts toward sustainable living. Traversing applied science literacy, ecological education, and community-based vocational training, the curriculum encompassed upcycling used cooking oil into functional household soap, producing multi-purpose eco-enzymes, practicing urban hydroponic agriculture, and transforming domestic recyclable waste into value-added artisanal crafts. The Kamal Eco Festival stood as a celebratory pinnacle highlighting the achievements of this joint stewardship.
In welcoming remarks, a representative of the Head of the Kamal Community Reading House expressed deep gratitude: “We sincerely hope this partnership between CT ARSA Foundation, YIIM, and INSIGHT continues into the future. Such continuity ensures that the passion demonstrated by Kamal’s youth and residents will not conclude here, but will continue to flourish through ecological stewardship, grassroots innovation, and collaboration toward a sustainable and brighter tomorrow.”
At the bustling festival marketplace, mentored children confidently took charge of interactive exhibition booths. The stalls were organized across several educational stations highlighting eco-friendly items crafted by the children during the training cycle. Simultaneously, the youth engaged in practical social entrepreneurship by managing instant photo-printing services and selling handcrafted picture frames assembled from upcycled materials.
The festival concluded on a high note with a captivating performance of the Bibir Merah Dance, a creative choreography seamlessly weaving traditional Betawi cultural motifs. Graciously performed by two youth delegates as a duo, the performance lent artistic beauty and harmony to the closing ceremony. Beyond providing an empowering stage for local cultural expression, the finale inspired the younger generation to honor and preserve their ancestral heritage while actively nurturing planetary health.
Salam Inspirasi!
