Medical Student Solidarity: FK UI Student Board’s Liga Medika Fundraiser for Healthcare Worker Protection
YIIM received humanitarian donations raised by BEM IKM Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia through Liga Medika 2021 to fund emergency Covid-19 relief operations and social aid for underprivileged communities.

“What must be cut down is selfishness and hatred. What must be sharpened is SOLIDARITY and COMPASSION,” stated Najwa Shihab, underscoring the critical necessity of social empathy during times of national crisis.
This humanitarian ethos was clearly embodied by the Liga Medika initiative, which mobilized solidarity to ease the burden of those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
On June 27, 2021, Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) was entrusted by the Student Executive Board of the Student Family of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (BEM IKM FK UI) to receive and channel public donations raised through the Liga Medika 2021 event.
Liga Medika is the largest annual nationwide competition organized by BEM IKM FK UI for medical and health science students across Indonesia.
The fundraising campaign was conducted through a charity concert and an open public donation drive as part of a health campaign to raise awareness regarding respiratory diseases, particularly Covid-19. Initiated on June 17, 2021, the drive successfully raised IDR 7,554,000 (seven million five hundred fifty-four thousand rupiah).
The ceremonial handover was conducted virtually during the closing ceremony of Liga Medika via Zoom Meeting. The donation was officially transferred by Gabriella Regita, Project Officer of Liga Medika 2021, and received by Dewi Astari, Secretary of the YIIM Board.
Representing YIIM, Dewi Astari expressed her gratitude: “Our sincere appreciation goes to the faculty lecturers, the Liga Medika organizing committee, and all participants for placing their trust in YIIM. This contribution will be immensely beneficial for communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Amidst the surge in infections, let us remain steadfast in observing health protocols. Thank you once again, and may Liga Medika continue to thrive in the coming years.”
YIIM allocated the funds toward emergency Covid-19 response measures, prioritizing medical personnel through the procurement of essential personal protective equipment (PPE), medical masks, hand sanitizers, and urgent protective gear for healthcare workers on the front lines.
Since the onset of the pandemic, YIIM has actively rolled out emergency relief operations, including distributing face masks, providing PPE for medical teams at referral hospitals and the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, providing hand sanitizers and disinfectant spraying alongside the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and BAZNAS, as well as distributing staple food packs and meal boxes to vulnerable communities.
As a non-profit foundation, YIIM warmly welcomes partnerships with all institutions, corporations, and academic communities wishing to support humanitarian causes. Every contribution entrusted to YIIM is delivered directly, transparently, and accountably to beneficiaries in need, including low-income families, pandemic-impacted citizens, correctional clients, and marginalized communities across Indonesia.
Salam Inspirasi!
