Post-Earthquake Reconstruction: Relocating and Rebuilding Tunas Karya Kindergarten in Cianjur
YIIM and partners executed the relocation and reconstruction of the Tunas Karya Kindergarten building in Kebon Gedeh, Cugenang, Cianjur Regency following the earthquake. This initiative provides a safe, disaster-resilient educational facility for young learners from affected families.

The devastating 5.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Cianjur Regency, West Java, in late 2022 resulted in catastrophic destruction to civic infrastructure and public amenities across the region, heavily damaging essential early childhood educational facilities.
Among the learning centers requiring urgent relocation and rebuilding was Tunas Karya Kindergarten. Originally situated in Sukamulya Village, the school accommodates children from Kampung Gedeh, Kampung Pasirsapi, and Kampung Barukaso—a rural settlement comprising approximately 147 households with a population of 420 people. School records registered two dedicated teachers caring for 39 enrolled pupils, divided into 26 children in the senior kindergarten group (TK Besar) and 13 children in the junior kindergarten group (TK Kecil).
In swift response to this crisis, the Foundation for Inspiring Indonesia’s Development (YIIM), in collaboration with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, spearheaded the relocation and reconstruction of the school. The designated relocation site is situated within the estate grounds of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VIII at the Kebon Gedeh Unit in Cianjur, West Java. Initial project phases commenced in July 2023, partnering with an experienced local builder, PT Bougenville Cipta Abadi.
Total financial assistance channeled into this kindergarten relocation and reconstruction reached IDR 444,183,000 (four hundred forty-four million one hundred eighty-three thousand Indonesian Rupiah). This inclusive budgetary ceiling accounted for statutory taxes and was specifically calibrated to address local geotechnical factors within the post-disaster seismic zone, strictly adhering to finalized architectural blueprints and mutually vetted cost budgets (RAB).
The capital expenditure covered premium construction supplies and executed sequential building phases: preparatory site clearance, earth excavation, reinforced concrete foundation casting, structural masonry, and ceramic floor installation. Successive stages encompassed fitting durable doors and windows, structural roof framing and ceiling installation, exterior and interior wall painting, certified PLN electrical wiring, and establishing complete sanitation and clean water piping systems. Execution was supervised directly on-site by YIIM, corporate partners, and assigned engineering contractors according to YIIM’s rigorous governance standards.
The newly constructed, child-friendly, and earthquake-resilient Tunas Karya Kindergarten building brings immense value to young students, faculty educators, and the plantation families surrounding PTPN VIII Kebon Gedeh in Cianjur, West Java. This reconstruction initiative aligns squarely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 4 in ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all children.
