The Inspirational Indonesia Development Foundation (YIIM), through social funds from PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT), is determined to create change and improve social welfare through its flagship entrepreneurship empowerment program. The program aims to create agents of change who can spread inspiration and knowledge to those who still struggle with access. This social program aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 1: No Poverty.

Through YIIM’s entrepreneurship empowerment program together with INSIGHT, many small entrepreneurs have emerged, such as baristas, barbers, and those in the culinary field. This time, YIIM would like to present the profile of one of its cooking training alumnae, Sari Wulandari (36), also known as Mrs. Wulan. Mrs. Wulan is an alumna of the culinary entrepreneurship training batch 2 in 2020. Driven by a high interest in cooking, Mrs. Wulan seized the opportunity to learn at the cooking training held by YIIM and INSIGHT.

After the training, Mrs. Wulan didn’t stop honing her culinary skills. She then applied for a business equipment grant and received culinary business equipment assistance from YIIM and INSIGHT. Currently, Mrs. Wulan has started a culinary business called “Latanza Crackers Keripik Singkong” on Jl. Cempaka Warna RT 10/RW 04, Cempaka Putih Timur, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.

Mrs. Wulan is a stay-at-home mother with two children. Her first child is in the 7th grade, and her second child is in the 2nd grade. Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, her husband’s income was significantly reduced. To help her husband provide for the family, Mrs. Wulan works hard selling her cassava chips both online (via social media) and offline (offering her products directly through local community gatherings, PKK meetings, and other social events).

Every morning, Mrs. Wulan goes to the Rawasari Market in Central Jakarta to buy the raw materials for her business. She typically buys about 15 kilograms of cassava per day. Since she started selling her cassava chips, Mrs. Wulan has built a loyal customer base both in her neighborhood and beyond.

The assistance from YIIM and INSIGHT has been extremely helpful for Mrs. Wulan in increasing her production capacity. This, in turn, has also increased her income.

Mrs. Wulan is now able to earn a net income of between Rp. 1,000,000 (one million rupiah) and Rp. 2,000,000 (two million rupiah) per month on average. Her business has also been officially licensed with an IUMKM (Small and Medium Enterprise License) and holds a PKP (Food Safety Counseling Certificate) from the Jakarta Health Agency.

The opportunity provided by YIIM and INSIGHT has certainly been of great help to Mrs. Wulan during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
